Age of Pirates II

Sea Dogs: City of Abandoned Ships, a swashbuckling RPG, is available now for Windows, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Formerly known as Age of Pirates II, City of Abandoned Ships continues the Sea Dogs tradition of freedom and wide-open swashbuckling adventure.

Thrown into a life of opportunity, you just have to learn to take it. Should you command and pillage the game's many ships as a cutlass-swinging, shanty-singing buccaneer, or build a network of trade and profit to reap the rewards of a merchant's life? Perhaps you'd rather seek treasure and fortune among the many secrets of the Caribbean Islands?

Like most things in City of Abandoned Ships, it's all up to you. The options are as countless as the rewards.

Revisit a time of opportunity and dubious glory in Sea Dogs: City of Abandoned Ships, now DRM-free on GOG.com
And the link is finally working, so pop!

GOG.com:
It might be a good idea if the news post link on the front page didn't just redirect to the front page again...
Edit before posting: Aaaand fixed. :)

Anyway, I could've sworn that this one was already here. [shrugs]
Ah another game on the list has come to gog, great.
Looks fun. Waiting to hear other opinions before jumping aboard.
Best in series ! Instabuy.

But... Where is russian version ? :(
I will get this someday!

I probably would have insta-bought it if there was a release discount, or loyalty discount (since I own the rest of the series here). BUT, there can't always be such deals; GOG has spoiled me.

Thanks GOG for bringing another great title to us DRM free!

Another one? How many of those Sea Dogs games are there? And aren't they all similar? :D
How similar is this to the "Pirates of the carribean" Sea Dogs2?
I mean I loved that game to death, but I'm guessing that's not going to come due to copiright shenanigans.
Graphically they look same-ish. So hook me up with some info please.
Thx in advance.

Copy / Paste from the other thread, and a hit of Edward Carnby since it seems he's played it (hopefully you don't mind me bugging you!).

Can anyone who has played this answer a couple questions?

1) Is there island / on foot exploration and treasure hunting? I've found one review on Amazon that says Yes but I can't find any other confirmation so I figured I'd check with someone who has played it. LOVED the sort of nebulous treasure hunting in the Pirates of the Caribbean Sea Dogs reskin and I'm hoping that it's present here.

2) Are officers a bit more interesting to collect? I quickly became bored of Caribbean Tales because it was super easy / trivial to simply get a Max Value Officer immediately. I had Skill 9 Cannon and Sailing (I think was the skill) officers right away - I feel like in POTC there was better "progression" where I'd find a guy that might add 4 to sailing and 2 to boarding or maybe I'd hunt down a special officer that would have amazing stats.

In Caribbean Tales I just popped into a port or three and all of a sudden my Ship Skills were maxed out and I didn't care about that aspect of the game anymore - was a bit of a let down.

Yes (island exploration & treasure hunting included + many interisting quest goin' on foot) & yes (superior officers never sail with you if you haven't enough rep, level, stats or even complete particular quest).
No bother - happy to help. =)

"City" using same engine (storm), but other than that - games are almost completely different.

"City" is far more RPG & open world than previous games.

Thanks!

But how similar is the land & sea combat?
Open worldiness RPG-ness is no problem that game's main quest wasn't that good anyway. I do crave the ship boarding and ensuing melee.
