Blood of the ancients.

Pharaonic, a challenging 3D sidescroller where you duel Egyptian ne'er-do-wells and ancient monsters, is now available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, DRM-free on GOG.com, with GOG Galaxy support for achievements (Windows and Mac only) and a 20% launch discount.

The rulers of Egypt were never known for their forgiving and amicable disposition and the mysterious Red Pharaoh is probably the most ruthless among them. In order to have a chance against him and his hard-hitting minions, you shall perfect your combat skills, refine your tactics, and always be on your guard. Do you prefer an agile style, with quick cuts and nimble maneuvers, or are you going in full-force, hoping to dish out more punishment than you can withstand? Your character is heavily customizable thanks in no small part to the hundreds of equipment pieces that you'll find, in hopes that they can help you stand a better chance against the unforgiving bosses and traps. But against such insurmountable odds, you will also need the aid of the gods, so make sure to put the spellcasting powers they grant you to good use.

Use your wits, strength, and tactical prowess to duel the ancient monsters that stand in your way in Pharaonic, DRM-free on GOG.com.
The 20% discount will last until October 26, 12:59 PM UTC.

I liked the Ziggurat but never really finished it nor I played more then a few hours, but the visuls look good on this one.

Maybe I'll try it later with other tons of stuff from GoG.
From the description, the game seems to be some bastard child of Titan Quest and Dark Souls.
And I`m not sure if the child got the good or the bad parts from its parents.

Vythonaut: Looks like a spin-off of Trine to me, just without the puzzles -- only combat. Doesn't sound bad. (...)

amok: I was more thinking it looks more like Prince of Persia without the platforming, which kind of was the fun parts.
Hmmm, you're right, totally forgot the PoP series!

Senteria: Isn't the power of unity also that every game update is as big as the game itself?
From what I recall, unity games come with packaged assets, and do not use a patch.asset (for example) to add new stuff. So if your textures.asset is 1.5GB and you need to add new textures to your game, the whole textures.asset file has to be repackaged, which means a simple 2MB texture will result in a 1.5GB file being changed.
One could probably use either a delta patcher or an unpack/modify/repack combination, though unsure if that will be better or worse (download size vs computing time to patch).

GOG is selling Milkstone's shovelware now?
Oh dear... well at least it's not too nieche®.
For those wondering about difficulty, I'll put in my two cents (though it's been a while since I've played this - have had it for some time on Steam). Combat is pretty much the only action you perform in the game, and it is tricky to master blocking and parrying. I definitely got better at it over time but never got great at it. I also felt like I was limited to using the same maneuvers again and again, which made gameplay feel repetitive.

The first level - or maybe two? - were a challenge that really tested me, and it felt great to achieve victory. But then upon reaching level two (or three, can't remember), I could not proceed. It was more than hard; I just couldn't get past the early enemies of that level. I can't speak for everyone - certainly I'll acknowledge that I may just not be very good at this game - but this early limit on my progress made me feel like this purchase wasn't worth it, despite enjoying the controls, graphics, etc.

So going in, I'd only recommend this game if you like tricky side-scrolling combat and have the skill and patience to get through it.

Don't wanna sound like a douche but this one doesn't look like shovelware at all, man!

Well, they will milking your wallet ;)

For me, it looks fantastic. Maybe I am wrong, but really, the promo video and images looks delicious.

Oh look, another attempt of Gog to be EXACTLY like steam. Too bad your are losing users faster than you will ever gain them again because.....go ahead and guess, I'll wait.....

BECAUSE NOBODY WAS EXCITED FOR GOG TO EXIST BECAUSE THEY WANTED ANOTHER DRM THAT GAVE THEM MOSTLY UNFINISHED EARLY ACCESS GAMES THAT WOULD NEVER BE FINISHED

Looks pretty enough tho...

Why, oh Why had this to be an *action* RPG? I would have loved to play a regular RPG or a detective game in the vein of Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper with this theme. So many opportunities. Pass.

oh.. really i did! thanks for the notice. i usually buy platformers for my girlfriend

..and what about something for boys ;-) lets say twilight 2000 ? ;-)
"Unforgiving" is too often code for "we can't balance our game competently" (see also: hardcore), although this game does have "very positive" reviews so far on Steam so far, which may or may not mean anything. Put it on the ol' wishlist for now, and check reviews in more depth when I've finished with the games I'm currently playing.
