Hi all.
I thought I would put my two bits here, in hope that it helps people knowing what they will put their money into. I'm not going to tell you if the game is woth it or not, as I didn't finish it or even played enough.
First, yes it's pretty much like a Baldur's gate game. You have to understand that it's almost verbatim a transposition of the D&D p&p tabletop rpg system. If you're a firdt timer and don't know anything about it, it might be hurtfull to give it a try if you know nobody that has some hand one experience with the mechanics of the game, or if you're not the type that like to hunt for information in wiki. It's not so much the character creation that will stop you, you can still go for a warrior (which isn't that simple when need the time to choose your feats, but has a lot less special mechanics in it), but the actual combat.
The thing is that with the traditionnal pen & paper rpg, you have a human being assuring the role of dungeon master, it's his work to assure that the difficulty is well manage in regard to its group of players. Here, as it is a game, and the dev have no idea what will be the make up of your group or where you'tr going to go on the map (you're pretty free), the fight ends up being you trying and dying, then learning that you can't manage the fight and need to come back later. The game made a poor job at easing the players in the different system (but I remember the elementary evil temple being as dreadfull), and it would still be difficult to do without the player willing to engage the ingame help (see your journal, that contains a section that explain BAB, CMD, AC and others).
You have no way to know, unless you already played a D&D game, if you're up for a fight against 4 wolfs or one cheetah. There also all the tactic, that can turn what was a one sided beating into a fair fight.
What I can tell you is that the story and the goals are engaging, that you can play as a real bad person, the your compagnions might not put up with everything you decide to do. I remembered a fight that I couldn't manage, even after trying a dozen of time. Then I mistook the place I wanted to go, to where that fight was, only a few minutes later, to catch the opponent still sleeping. Well let's just say that it didn't ended well for them, as they waked up at the sound of Amari charging in full rage their necro.
So to sum up, if you have always been interested in D&D and maybe pathfinder in particular, but never find the opportunity to buy and try the rpg pen & paper, then you might want to check the game if you're not afraid to "study a bit. If you have friends that know about it or own the game and are comfortable with it, see if they are willing to help you ease into it. You will have lots to talk about, that's for sure.
If you already bought the game and are fed up with it, well... I could tell you that the first 3-4 lvl are always rough, even with a DM. A rat can one shot a lvl 1 sorcerer after all. The thing is as you grow in power, and you will see and feel it, the ennemies might start to use tactics that might exploit weakness in your team that you didn't even know was there.
Remember that there are plenty of options to scale the difficulty to your experience.
You can also watch the derails of the combat action on the bottom right corner of your screen. When hoverring the mouse over a line you get the details a this particular action (dice throws, bonus and malus going in), it can helps understandings what's going on and where are your strength and weakness.
If you are totally new to the genre, and just want to hop and have fun, this game is NOT for you. It will just feel bonkie and unfair, you will be lost as to who to take with you, what to do and whoose when you level up, what to equip, what to take with you. Without the will to look into the mechanics of the game, every choices will be a pain in the a..
As for the bug I only had a few. When choosing a proficiency with exotic weapon, the list of weapon available was blank. After a few tries it loaded normaly, and for an unknow reason my main character as its swords not reposing in its scabbard but parallel to it, which is a minor thing.
