Theatricality and deception are powerful agents.

Masquerada: Songs and Shadows, a stylish RPG of artful deception and real-time-with-pause combat, is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Keep the aristocracy elevated far above the underprivileged for long enough and turmoil will certainly ensue. Even in Citte della Ombre, this beautiful Venetian-escue city, where elaborate masks grant magic powers to their owners. Living in exile for past transgressions, you are now summoned back to form an elite task force and investigate the mysterious kidnapping of an upstanding citizen. But can you truly trust those giving the orders or even your own companions?
Whether you enjoy swift, chaotic battles that require sharp reflexes and split-second decisions, or prefer to plan and fine-tune your every move, Masquerada's flexible combat system will feel equally fun and challenging. Especially when accompanied by the dramatic narrative and incredible voice-overs, provided by the likes of Jennifer Hale and Matthew Mercer.

Get entangled in a dramatic tale of dark conspiracy, powerful magic, and intricate lies in Masquerada: Songs and Shadows, DRM-free on GOG.com.

goglin: Looks interesting. Has anybody played it > 2h?

Soundtrack seems nice - is available in the game folder or will it be sold somewhere else?

How is the combat system? In the "lets play" vids it looks a bit imprecise when they select that circle with a direction where the attack should lead to instead of attacking a certain enemy directly..
It's basically a jRPG with RTwP combat. You're just following along with the story, your character has a predefined personality and you don't get to make any choices, except for choosing his element and skills. Reminds me a bit of those visual novel / RPG hybrids where you go from one location to another by just clicking a location on a map. Here you walk towards a quest marker. Which isn't too bad, the game is fairly nice to look at, though I've found the environments a bit empty, which sort of took away from the atmosphere for me. The way the worldbuilding is approached also reminds me of a certain trend in anime - the writers call simple stuff by really fancy names. These guys had the good sense to keep it all Italian instead of some crazy all-European mismash that the Japanese love to do, but I found it annoying nonetheless.

The combat is classic RTwP meets MMORPGs. I haven't played the newer Bioware games, but I believe this is the same system. Space for pause, characters have abilities with a cooldown timer. There are stances and mask abilities to spice it up a little.

In summary:
+ pretty (though a bit empty)
+ fresh setting
+ story seems interesting (note I've only played the game for a bit less than two hours)
+ decent VA

- zero story choice
- zero exploration
- needlessly terminologically dense / the lore writeups are far too wordy for what they're trying to convey
- not turn-based :p
The Mac version is here as of about 20 minutes ago :)

I'm not that much into story choice, but the missing exploration and the zero grind/absolute level control policy are the things that have put the old school RPG gamer in me off a little too much (that was the dealbreaker in Blackguards as well). The devs may still get a solid bit of my money via bandcamp though. :)

On to Earthlock! Should it finally arrive. :|

Thank you both! Seems to be a really nice game and linear gameplay is no problem for me if it has a fancy story :)

For those interested in the soundtrack: the artist is Josh Whelchel, digital release is October 23, 2016.

Fairfox: Yah, I know... I think I went down likeee thirty-five or so this month. It's cute! Altho I has another one nao because they didn't like mah trade and had to share it with teh world; c'est la vie.
Excuse me? I openly criticised one of your trades, because in my opinion you took advantage of a rather new forum member. I made my point and so did you, end of story. I don't know who's downvoting you, but it definitely isn't I.
