Tiny Bang Story, Morphopolis, plus the Enigmatis and Nightmares from the Deep trilogies.

Who doesn't love the look of a messy room, devilishly concealing all the important items when you need them the most? That guilty pleasure of rummaging around for your car keys, wallet, or that grotesque ivory ornament which unlocks the secrets to the family curse, is what Hidden Object Games are all about!
We kick off their arrival on GOG.COM with a fine selection that was hiding in plain sight and some purty 70% discounts until August 10th, 1pm UTC.

Tiny Bang Story takes place on a lovely planet thrown into disarray after an unfortunate clash with a total jerk of a meteor. Help fix it by solving quirky puzzles and scouring hand-drawn screens for objects of interest.

The Enigmatis trilogy begins on the spooky streets of Maple Creek, a place overflowing with secrets, tragedy, and hidden knickknacks! Disoriented and confused after being hit by a furious storm, you must steel your nerves and stay focused on finding that missing girl.

Morphopolis is an evocative puzzle adventure set in an almost-psychedelic forest undergrowth full of curious insects. Gorgeous exploration and fascinating discoveries await.

Ghost ships, doomed romance, pirate treasure, and items in need of finding make up the Nightmares from the Deep trilogy, a chilling tale straight from Davy Jones' locker.

And WHAT IS WITH THIS STANDARDS CRAP!? XD

Is there an official list of "GOG Standards" somewhere? I've been here six years, I've never seen it. Does it have "NO HO Games" written on it?

People are making it sound like there is some stone tablet somewhere, penned by god, that specifically spells out what GOG will and will not sell. :P

Oh no no nooooooo....

Honestly, it's not that I want to deprive people of those games on GOG, but there are so damn many of them.
Nice. Not my favourite genre, but once in a while (mostly when I'm stressed or tired) I like to play a good Hidden Object Game.
Meh. Good for those who like pixel hunting I suppose. Not my jam though.

Now that is one creepy shovelware-ridden genre. One freaky pandora box kicked open. But to be fair, there are a few cool games in there ("Hidden folks", the original "Huntsville / Mystery Case Files", the "Travelogue" ones, and, yeah, I just bought "Morphopolis" on steam a few days ago). But damn, that will be some heavy load on gogs curator's shoulders.

Pax11: Of the genre, Artifex Mundi has the most consistently quality games. While I love these kind of games (quick "adventurey" kind of genre) some devs do make some truly horrible ones. Of the devs available, I think GOG chose one of the best to partner with.

And keep in mind, GOG makes deals with developers/publishers, not genres.

I'd trust Big Fish Studio too, for HOG, given that they were the first ones I had played, when the genre was still fun novelty and hadn't devolved into a plague of cheap clones (including the horrendous Sherlock Holmes games : both "Dog of the Baskerville" with its magical plot and "Persian Carpet" with its re-used assets are enough to disgust anyone from the genre if not from Frogwares itself). But I think Big Fish isn't that much on DRM-free ideologies anyway.

Anyway, the Hidden Folks guy may need some convincing apparently : https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/hidden_folks

toxicTom: Nice that they are here! Could be a genre for the kids (if they are German - and kids-friendly).
Many would be okay, but some have themes which might not suit, so I'd check them first.

I welcome this genre on GOG. Often the narratives are reasonable and the puzzles can be complex. Most of the games take 3-4 hours to play, which is a good length if you just want something to fill a few hours.
Not interested in any of them, but hey, some will be happy those games got to gog.

Wooho! I hope that we are going to see more Artifex Mundi games on GOG, they are pretty good!

Edit: But please keep these hidden object games heavily curated, there are way too many junk in this genre.

I'm surprised these came b/c I didn't think there was a target audience here, but perhaps GOG is trying to bring that target audience here.

I was also surprised by the whining but I shouldn't have been. :P The complaining makes me wanna go on a downvoting rampage.

I think these are pretty nice, I might even pick up some. And so far GOG spared us from most of the shovelware so I'm optimistic that only games which are at least decent get here.

This is not my genre of games, but this thread has proven that there a lot of users interested in hidden object games. So, good for them! More variety is good.

It's impossible (or at least, very unrealistic to expect) to like every single of the 2000+ games on GOG. It's a business and they need to grow their customer base. There has to be something for everyone, not everything for someone.
I was always fascinated by this genre, maybe time to try some :)
Are there particular good ones in this releases ? How close is this to point & clicks ? Are there enigmas ? If yes, are they "convoluted" ? What to expect gameplay-wise ?

I'm mostly attracted by Nightmares from the Deep trilogy & The Tiny Bang Story, how good are they ? Are they a good starting point to discover the genre ?

I am a very huge casualgames fan i have > 1400 ( thats 450 retail the rest is digital, i own many artifex games twice, yes twice ( to support them as much as possible)
i have played too many HOG and casuals so i am not an expert but i do know my HOG and casual games also know which games are among the best :D

2019 they will release a point and click game: Irony_Curtain_From_Matryoshka_with_Love
already wishlisted at steam because GOG had no HOG ( Hidden Object Games).
I own some Alawar games aswell, some older HOG are quite good, i only buy casualgames at Steam as long as i can run them without the evil steam client :D

Totally agree with this post. There's a lot of crap out there too so please indeed heavily curation! :)

I wouldn't mind the Big Fish Mystery Case Files collection. ;)

llamas: I've been interested in trying a hidden object game. I've heard good things about the Drawn series so I hope those show up eventually.
Drawn are made and published by Big Fish Games, and as they have their own storefront it is not likely. They are very good, though, highly recommended.

On topic, Artifex Mundi games are a good starting point, most of their games are of good quality.
