Tiny Bang Story, Morphopolis, plus the Enigmatis and Nightmares from the Deep trilogies.

Who doesn't love the look of a messy room, devilishly concealing all the important items when you need them the most? That guilty pleasure of rummaging around for your car keys, wallet, or that grotesque ivory ornament which unlocks the secrets to the family curse, is what Hidden Object Games are all about!
We kick off their arrival on GOG.COM with a fine selection that was hiding in plain sight and some purty 70% discounts until August 10th, 1pm UTC.

Tiny Bang Story takes place on a lovely planet thrown into disarray after an unfortunate clash with a total jerk of a meteor. Help fix it by solving quirky puzzles and scouring hand-drawn screens for objects of interest.

The Enigmatis trilogy begins on the spooky streets of Maple Creek, a place overflowing with secrets, tragedy, and hidden knickknacks! Disoriented and confused after being hit by a furious storm, you must steel your nerves and stay focused on finding that missing girl.

Morphopolis is an evocative puzzle adventure set in an almost-psychedelic forest undergrowth full of curious insects. Gorgeous exploration and fascinating discoveries await.

Ghost ships, doomed romance, pirate treasure, and items in need of finding make up the Nightmares from the Deep trilogy, a chilling tale straight from Davy Jones' locker.

Splatsch: Only one question : is there a way to play it in 4:3 ratio ? I wasn't too much bothered in NftD, but here I feel it more that it's stretched to my desktop resolution :P (16:9)
Most HOGs from the transition period to 16:9 but still made in 4:3 should have a "widescreen" checkbox in the options menu, or at least one to play windowed.

Telika: And that's what makes steam's (and bigfsh's of course) categories frustrating. You seek a proper adventure game, you end up with a series of propositions that end up being H.O.G.
avatar
RPGDEX: ?

I never have seen "a proper adventure game" there on Big Fish (Monkey Island, The Dig, Broken Sword...). I never cared to search there... they never hide from the casual games they sell. That's their business.
There were a few ones, like the Sokal games. They could be found usually under the "big files" category (amongst ambitious HOGs - but there was no tag or subcategory to make the distinction).

Not really interested myself but I'm very happy so see the here - after all many people enjoy them so why shouldn't they be here? It's not my cup of tea so I simply don't buy nor play them. I don't loose anything and others are happy which makes me happy too - everybody wins

Even windowed, it's in widescreen unfortunately :P
And nope, no 4:3 option ! (but I may have missed it)

Did you read my post in your thread?

MarkoH01: Did you read my post in your thread?
Yep, sorry to have made you wait : I was trying the screen resolution changer, I'll answer you right now in my thread :)
(I asked the question here too just in case some people used to HOG in general may have a solution)

thank you, very kind of you, many gamers buy FPP and shooters, games i would never buy, but i would never tell people not to buy them, they are free to buy what they like, like you said:
"i dont loose anything and others are happy , which makes me happy too.,-verybody wins."

yup this makes it a win-win for everyone , all parties will be happy and satisfied and that is what we want happiness for everyone.

Really nice to see this kind of reactions, as gamesfreak64 said :)

i favor a windowed mode , but most if not all games want full screen, and if they have a 'windowed' mode its no real windowed mode cause they dont show the taskbar and or parts of the desktop, i want to see my taskbar so i can check cpu and temps :D ( becuase of many poor build games ( most of unity made games are badly optimised) that abuse cpu and burn them to a crisp)

Gorky 17 is not windowed but using DXwnd you can force it , doesnt work for all games, the artifex mundi games do not accept it they seem to check something to make sure it runs in the preset resolution and the game wont start.
One problem is tabbing, dxwnd game will crash or screen stays black but thats the price i pay for being able to run the game in a window using dxwnd, and the graphcis are smaller so they look less rubbish, the game only looked great ( graphics) with old videocards that were available during the release of the game, all my later GPU make the graphics look like garbage ... same goes for the resident evil 1,2 and 3 , the graphics look like shites and worked a charm under the voodoo card , anyway thats the price we pay for progress and innovatiopn and new GPU that are so powerfull but make old games look like garbage ( graphics)

Wolfy777: I do realize it's probably a joke, but you're essentially saying you don't trust any woman who's yet to hit menopause. XD
As a female unit I dare joke from everyone and everything :)
Joking is a nice addition to existence. :)

eiii: Could it be that these games are called "Wimmelbildspiele" in German?
avatar
Leroux: Yes, I think I've seen them called like that.
Thanks! Then I already own dozens of these games as a lot of my old game magazines contain such games for free. Maybe I have to re-check these magazines. :)

Starmaker:
Thanks for the review! The screenshots from these games look really good. Maybe I'll try out one of them.

Oh dear...if you thought anime games & walking simulators had a bad rep... Hidden Object games are pretty much on the lowest rung of the videogame ladder. Me personally I don't mind them eihter way, some are fine to waste a weekend on, but a good portion of them are horribly same-y cut & paste cashgrabs

You just described EVERYTHING people make.
avatar
amok: Why? They are slow and sedate, require a lot of patience, based on reading and understanding, most of them heavily puzzle oriented and often deals with mature topics. What makes them games for children?
avatar
Telika: Do you know many videogames for grown-ups ? :-/
In fact unless you are playing Nintendo Consoles, nowadays almost every game is only suitable for adults. Just take a peek at Playstation catalogue (almost everything 18 in red). I remember when I was playing Diablo II that the expansion Lord of Destuction was already +17 (and that was the year 2001!). Nice games Heavenly Sword (16+), Assasins Creed (16+) or Arkham Asylum (18+). I was playing them on my Playstation 3 years ago.

I remember when I was a kid with my zx spectrum that nobody was caring about "violence ratings" and this kind of stuff.
Everything was so innocent on those 8 bits computers.

I wholeheartedly agree with that statement. :D

Being female myself, I found it hilarious. ;)
