Some quality time with your lovebird.

Hatoful Boyfriend: Holiday Star, the festive sequel to the beloved bird-dating simulator, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com for Windows, Mac and Linux with a 15% launch discount.

Ah, love. It hits you when you least expect it, carries you up on its tender wings and lets you soar above the mundanities of life, giving you a bird's-eye view of pedestrian struggles. But finding the perfect mate can be tricky, especially while studying away from your nest. At a University where everyone else but you is a bird.

Hatoful Boyfriend: Holiday Star is a unique experience that you would be hard-pressed to pigeonhole under any specific label. As in all things related to the mystical dance called "falling in love", there is adventure to be found here but also reflective thinking and careful observation of human---er bird behavior. This holiday-themed sequel brings new feathered characters to interact with, new stories and an even crispier HD presentation to make your avian-courting a true visual pleasure.

But if you want to hit multiple birds with one stone, be sure to also pluck the Hatoful Boyfriend: Holiday Star - Collector's Pack DLC which offers the full digital soundtrack, a Holiday Star Dossier digital booklet, The King's Story Book, and a sweet collection of festive wallpapers. Access to this DLC requires Hatoful Boyfriend: Holiday Star.

Romance your avian nest-mate and find your Hatoful Boyfriend: Holiday Star, now DRM-free on GOG.com. The launch discount will last until December 22 4:59 PM GMT.

budejovice: Sometimes I think there's a lot of naysaying just for the sake of naysaying. Seriously guys, it was ONE fucking game that you wanted to play. Thank god for the 1000s of crap games they ALSO rejected.
GOG's approval process is somewhat infamous at this point for being inconsistent and feeling arbitrary. The reason there's a lot of "naysaying" here isn't just because of The Fall of the Dungeon Guardians, but because this is yet another example of GOG's frustrating approval process at work. It's great that GOG rejects bad games, but that doesn't excuse the rejection of good ones.
This makes me a happy goger. I'm dying to find out why this game is so weird, I should have done it when I had the chance.

Exactly and then when you add on that all they released today was this and a DLC... you left wondering why hell was this it? Is it because the reject so many games (perhaps even good games?) and now they don't have much to offer? Surly I'm not saying this game doesn't have a place here, but the releases today are rather pathetic especially since we didn't get much the past week or two because of the sale and when you know GOG could have had much more to release you left wondering why this gets added but not some other games that we should have here but do not. I do not need releases everyday, but we should get a variety every Tuesday and Thursday, preferably at the very least 3 or 4 IMO.

You're probably already aware, but we are getting Turok this Thursday and UnderRail this Friday, so that may be one of the reasons why GOG chose to keep it "simple" today (to work on preparing the latter).

I was aware, but even that is not a very good excuse honestly, what happens two days from now shouldn't effect what happens today. If it does then it only further shows there process for releasing games here isn't the greatest. Nor does that make up for passing on games that should have a place here if this has a place here. I'm looking forward to Turok though. :)

Marioface5: I have no problem with this releasing here, but GOG, you seriously need to stop telling developers that their game was rejected for being "too niche" when you're willing to sell a game like this. Please.
Spot-on

This, exactly.

GOG, you have no right to reject good games for being niche if you're going to sell something like this.

Also, you rejected Dragon's Lair, something that is part of gaming history, because Cinematronics wanted to launch it with a $9.99 price tag, yet you're perfectly fine selling DLC to this extremely niche game at basically the same price. Hmm.

I'd really like to hear GOG staff try to justify themselves at this point.

But no matter my thoughts, the wallets do speak. After a full sale day, this release is sitting at a whopping #73 on the popular list. :)
Actually, they're rejected every shmup submitted to them since Raiden III. Mushihimesama is the most notable, but it's far from the only one. And these are companies (not people working out of their garages) working with an actual publisher with a proven track record, with extras all lines up and a willingness to go DRM-free, and they all have previous releases to show that they're not just dicking around.

So no, it's not just one game. Entire genres get shrugged off by GOG.

With that said, I actually want to re-iterate that this game is good! Like, actually good! It's frustrating that other games are being rejected, but this game definitely deserves to be here. It's an extremely clever parody that's got a lot more going on than the single joke it presents itself with in marketing.

If anyone's curious what I'm talking about feel free to PM me, I don't want to spoil it here where people could see but it's really hard to sell someone on these games without spoiling them.

Oh, i'm pretty sure they have a right to do that on the site they own and operate. But i agree that it's pretty bullshit and that their definition of niche seems strange.

The simple answer is money. However niche it is, Hatoful Boyfriend has 200,000+ owners according to steam spy. GoG looks at that and sees if they can even grab 10% of that, it's 20,000 copies. Perhaps they do not believe Dragon's lair would sell close to that.

I would like too but I guess they won't justify anything so we will never know.

sethsez: Actually, they're rejected every shmup submitted
Then buy your shmups somewhere else like I buy my visual novels somewhere else. I have never hijacked the forum for 2 or 3 weeks because Loren isn't here.
