Blizzard Entertainment and GOG.COM have teamed up to rerelease select classic Blizzard games, beginning with Diablo®, Blizzard’s legendary 1996 action role-playing game that introduced players to the harsh—and deeply rewarding—world of Sanctuary.

The original Diablo® is available now via digital distribution for the first time ever on GOG.COM. Players looking for the authentic Diablo experience can play the game as it was in 1996, with period-appropriate 20 FPS SVGA graphics, and the ability to matchmake through the classic version of Blizzard’s Battle.net® online-gaming service.

Blizzard and GOG.COM have collaborated on an updated version of the game, which includes out-of-the-box Windows 10 compatibility, and a host of bug fixes. Players can choose either version of the game from a launcher.

paladin181: There are free mods (the Hell, Bezelbub both are better) that blow Hellfire out of the water. And Hellfire is only slightly more official since Blizzard wants to forget they had Sierra make it.
Those mods change other core elements of the game though as well as adding Hellfire things to it. Some people like myself want to play it as close to the original versions of Diablo and Hellfire as possible.

And Blizzard can want to forget about Hellfire all they want, it doesn't make it any less official, and its alot more official then the mods you have listed. As none of the mods were approved by Blizzard where has Hellfire was.
Finally in my collection. :)

Thank You GOG!

BOOM

page 1 of all-time best sellers
It's jumped up another 2 spaces (since I last looked) - https://www.gog.com/games?page=1&sort=bestselling - so if it's 48 games per page then it's now at 46.

Hellfire wishlist entry has over 2k votes now - https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/diablo_hellfire_1

I had to pick this up after I saw it. I remember when I was 13 playing this game for the first time 14 hours straight at my friends house. He watched for hours and then fell asleep as I played all through the night and into the next day. To relive that! Oh yes!

Personally, I'm still hoping for the expansion pack to get released. I am also hoping/waiting for a Diablo 2 along with it's expansion.
If it is 48 per page, Diablo is at 44 now, jumping Nox and Dragon Age Origins recently.

One can only imagine what would happen if GOG got Diablo 2. It would probably top the charts.

The servers would need a funeral organized.

That's crazy I never would have guessed Nox was such a cult classic.

I remember when it released and it always sort of seemed like one of the "also ran" hack and slash games that came out around that time, post-Diablo.

Magazines at the time listed it as a temporary solution for people wanting Diablo 2. I almost bought it several times while waiting... then I got D2. Never played Nox till a few months ago.

I felt similar (very surprised) about Theme Hospital hitting the front page and making into the top 5 positions. I'm sure the frequent -75% EA prices helped, $6 prices going down to $1.50.
