Great lands beget great wars.

Oriental Empires is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com. Get it 40% off until January 11, 2 PM UTC.

Only a vast, turn-based 4X strategy game can hope to capture the spirit of a sprawling historical period like the evolution of ancient China. Begin your journey as the leader of a single settlement and gradually expand your reach by making war, researching new technologies, and forging tactical allegiances. Watch the faithfully recreated map of the region come under your control as your troops clash in massive battlefields and your peasants toil away in the sun to support your empire's growing population.

Hi all,

In order to celebrate the GoG release (and the new year!) we will be hosting a Twitch stream on our channel. We will be going live at 5PM CET and demonstrate a little bit of Oriental Empires.

Hope to see you there!

Cheers,

Surtur

Zoidberg: I year for a 3X whose "extermination" part has been exterminated. :P
There are already plenty of strategy games you can win while remaining peaceful, provided you remember to keep up enough of a military to deter the AI from declaring war on you.

If you mean getting rid of the war aspect completely, that's hard to do without getting rid of the challenge in the game, tbh. The closest I can think of would be something like Thea: the Awakening, where exploration and survival are the whole point.

Actually, Oriental Empires is not so much about exterminating. You can win through culture and diplomacy and even the conquest victory condition does not require you to kill everyone.

Uuuh, in the real world peace is harder than war. The fact we HAVE to have a sizeable army in civ 6 for instance dettered me from playing the game at all.

Why do anything but a military victory?

Dully noted. :)

Imo, that's pretty true to real life until very recently. Countries (or tribes, or whatever) that looked weak were often attacked by their neighbours.

As for the challenge aspect, the problem is that it's pretty easy to have an AI that will build a decent army and attack you if you look weak. It's much harder to make a good diplomacy AI (tbh, I've yet to see a game where the AI is capable of challenging a human player over diplomacy).

That is 5PM your time aka 5PM CET. Surtur mixed up CEST aka summertime with current Central European Time or CET.

Hi,

I am tempted to buy it but would like to know if there's a chance for multiplayer via local lan games (without the need for an internet connection or third party software like steam or gog galaxy)?

Thank you!
While it is something that would be cool to have, it is currently beyond the scope of the small development team to dedicate resources to a (relatively) niche feature like this.

OK, thank you for your fast and honest answer!

Enebias: Thank you, I definitely will. Are you perhaps one of the developers?
avatar
Surtur: I am producer on the game on behalf of the publisher, Iceberg Interactive. On top of that I am also a big fan of GoG, and have been for many years :)
I see! Thank you for giving non-Steam PC gamers an opportunity to enjoy your games!
I wish you the best on this platform, I hope you will be as successful as you can get!
You already have at least one customer! ;)
This is a great addition. Thank you for releasing on GoG. I was lucky enough to beta test Armada 2526: Supernova. It sure would be great to see Armada 2526 Gold released on GoG.

Nyktouros: FYI, it's Bob Smith's new game, creator of very old and good Armada 2525 and not so old and definitely outstandingly good Armada 2526 space 4X games.
And has been working on strategy games since the Spectrum 48K days and was head of the team that made medieval Total War II....!

So yes, this is a fantastic game with great battle AI and superb diplomacy AI!
