Gylfe: So this is just a skin? Wasn't this one of the backer rewards that requires me to be logged in to a PDX account?
It is, finally they released it as a standalone thingy, which it should have been from the start.

Alexim: I remember that this skin required to be always online to use it, now the DRM has been removed?
Yeah I'm a bit confused too. Is this skin the one that was available to backers? Or to pre-orders only? Or is it the same skin for both backers and pre-orders? Do I still have to be online to use it?
Also, as stated by others, having a single skin for a Mech that you won't use for long sold for €3.99 is a bit steep.
Unfortunately I backed this project since it was for GoG, but all the backer rewards require you to be online and signed in to PDX. It kind of defeats the purpose of being on GoG. One of the rewards was an Atlas mech and the skin was another. I cant tell you which skin because I refuse to log in to PDX. It taught me an important lesson about backing anything, and the two recent projects going epic only after promising steam and GoG only proves my unwillingness to back anything again right.
As the only way of actually changing things in any commercial area (in this case it's milking the customers with meaningless DLCs) from the customer side is voting with your wallet, the game goes off my wishlist.

Plus, the game is regionally priced, and I decided to think twice before buying such titles now that GOG has terminated the Fair Price Package, so bye bye Battletech, I have a 500+ games backlog and 100 other games on my wishlist.

morboid: I have to point out nearly 5$(CAD) is pretty steep for a single skin for a single mech.
If you ask me, even $1 is pretty steep. It has always been a ridiculous business model, but it seems they get away with it because there are folks that (edit: who) are buying stuff like that.

On one hand I am glad that there is no longer any in-game backer-exclusive DLC in this game, but on the other hand unless Paradox allows the backers to redeem this for free I will keep ignoring it just the same as when the cost for me was to "only" create a Paradox account stay logged in online while playing.
Glad the devs/publisher made a turnaround, this skin was the sole reason why I didn't buy the game, having it as a pre-order bonus was already bad, and requiring a Paradox account was simply dumb.

Now I can finally buy it at some point.

Thanks :-)
YES AT LAST YES I HAVE BEEN WAITING SO MUCH FOR THAT RELEASE THANK YOU IT IS THE VERY REASON WHY I CAME ON GOG IN THE FIRST PLACE TAKE MY MONEY TAKE ALL MY MONEY NOW MY LIFE IS COMPLETE

The skin previously acted like malware. Hopefully this fixes that but I do not know if it does or not. It was introduced with DRM in order to comply with the exclusivity of backer rewards. Somewhat reasonable intentions I guess. However doing it via an online communication caused stability problems whenever that connection was disrupted, just from having the skin installed regardless of whether it was used in game or not. The game would lock up if the connection was lost for any reason. A side effect of ensuring that no one could have an exclusive skin for one mech without permission. Even for those with permission could have problems because of it, with very little benefit to having it. This is why I considered it malware.

It was a mistake to introduce the DRM in that way in the first place. An unlock code would be less secure but would have been good enough to honor the promised exclusivity arrangement and without causing any issues. Of course it should not have had DRM on the GOG version anyways.

I personally got this as part of the reward for the edition I bought but I had to uninstall the game and reinstall it without this DLC in order to avoid the stability problems I mentioned. It is not worth risking installing it again for me as I didn't think much of it to begin with and grew to dislike the skin and never use it. Not worth risking any more problems even if the DRM is supposed to have been removed.

Why isn't this a part of the season pass?

morboid: I am sincerly hoping this is a one-time thing.

Bambusek: It probably is.
This is Paradox we're talking about. There will be plenty more pointless DLC incoming!
what I am wondering about this is if it gives the ability to have the ppc version of the mech, which iirc was originally created by Kurita... that would be the sole reason for me to get this
