Arcania Gothic 4 is pretty terrible from what I've heard, it's a bit of a joke on RPGCodex, like a byword for a terrible game.

Grargar: Hmm, no discount as of yet.

ThomNG: Already told GOG - discount will be live in a second :)
Aaaaaaaand instabought! :)

Hoping to see more THQ Nordic releases soon!
Is this the one most people hate?
Fun fact: I was involved in localising this game from German into English. Unfortunately, the translation was very piecemeal, sent to dozens of different freelance translators as Excel files with little information on context or style, so the translation is likely to be very inconsistent and problematic. The joys of working for JoWood...

I haven't played it yet though :)

Nice to finally have the complete Gothic series here (although Arcania is no longer considered canon, I think I've read). Unfortunately I wasn't exactly blown away by the demo for this one, but you can't win 'em all haha. Eh, I might pick it up for how heavily discounted it is, but I've got other games to buy first.

ThomNG: Enjoy! Finally, it is here on GOG :)
Awesome, thanks :)
Please add some other games to this sale as well (Darkfall, Ori) - although my library contains a frightening amount of Nordic releases already!

high rated

Vythonaut: I see so much beauty in these screenshots but the metacritic score implies that the game is mediocre. I'm off to read some reviews, in order to see why.. I hope it's the same case as with Gothic 3, where the unofficial patch claims to have made the game better.

Whether the game is good or not, thanks Nordic & GOG for the great launch discount! :)
I know that words of the publisher may not help as much as from other users, but many people may sign my statement that the game itself is a great and beautifully looking Action-RPG - the criticism and lower metacritic scores just came from the comparision to Gothic 1 - 3, which are much more hardcore RPGs than ArcaniA. As a game itself and without the Gothic connection/comparison, it is a fantastic game.

I would mostly sign this. That is why I said before, I can't see this as a Gothic game. And if it actually had another story I would have enjoyed it since it is not a bad game. Even if I would not use the word fantastic, that's a bit too much ;-)

It's 100% this. I played a demo of it on console and LOVED it - thought it was a lot of fun and enjoyed the way character / class growth seemed to be structured in the game. But TONS of people panned it because Gothic has a huge fan base and they were expecting a "Gothic" game - this isn't it.

I think this game was clearly a case of poor naming. I get why the original devs / pubs wanted to "link" it to Gothic (it's tough to get a new IP out there and name recognition is important) but they might have been better served calling it "Arcania - A Gothic Story" or some such LOL. You can see in recent years the "walkback" from it being "Gothic" - this release thread even just calls it Arcania. Much better idea because like I said, from my experience with the demo back then the game certainly stands on its own as a fun action (3rd person, NOT Iso) RPG.

Oh and Nordic your pricing on these new releases is just ridiculous (in all the right ways). Thanks a bunch!

Hi Tom,

I am definitely glad this game ended up here, will buy if for nothing else than just for having the complete Gothic set.
Although I haven´t heard praise about this game, I am looking forward to own it.

LOL - trying to trick him into another release spoil like last thread?

I always get these confused (Tachyon, Free / Starlancer) - is Tachyon the Bruce Campbell one? And is it open world with missions and side activities or is it straight mission based? Also, wholly Novalogic or are there others involved in it?
