yeah, would be much more worth it if they artificially stretched it out by including huge empty pointless areas, or lots of backtracking, to increase playtime. Maybe ramp up some difficult bullet-sponge bosses that takes about 10 min each to kill?

abzu is about that long.

and you know what? i endorse abzu. in fact, i endorse abzu at full price.

a lot of this is tied to what i like in abzu [and gaming in general] - a willingness to try something a little different. abzu was all about the gentle journey and the uncovering of the truth in that universe. it wasn't a game that lent itself to fights or long, 40 hour game play. it was just right.

now, i haven't seen reviews for this game and i have no idea of what the game play is like, but i'm willing to bet money that it's "that long" because it's doing a similar thing to abzu. it is "exactly as long as it needs to be."

this experience might not be for you. that's ok. there's lots of other games that are 40+ hours long that you can sink your teeth into. it's all good. gaming is about the myriad experiences you can have while holding a controller/mouse and keyboard. if we just had one type of game, gaming would be pretty dull.

i, for one, am grateful games like this exist and i hope more like it come out.

I came to this thread looking for such information, and since no one shared it before me, I looked it up myself and put it here. I have absolutely nothing against experimental games, I supported (through in-dev) at least one myself. But I also believe in full disclosure before buying, and I think information about length is relevant for the decision. Yes, I also included the word "only" which makes it my judgement, that was a bit unfortunate.

I will get this some day, I find the shapeshifting into bird theme interesting.
