I came to this thread looking for such information, and since no one shared it before me, I looked it up myself and put it here.

This is not meant as a sarcastic comment or anything, I am genuinely interested (as I find the concept foreign to me).

do you do the same with other media, or is something that only relates to games?

(i.e. before watching a film do you check out how many minutes it lasts, how many words a book has, how many seconds a song last, how many panels a comic has etc.)

If the answer is "games only", the follow up question would be - why?

I do not consume much other media. As far as I know tickets for cinema are constant price (I may be completely wrong, haven't been there for 20+ years) and the movies are almost one universal length. Music is either free-as-in-paid-by-comercials-on-radio, or monthly subscription for spotify. TV... yes, I think I remember what TV is. Books are wildly different in price and length and yes, I pay attention to how pricey it is compared to content. I own complete Discworld series, except for Last hero, which as far as I know is pretty short itself but the price is inflated to twice of other books in the series by lots of images that add nothing for me.

In both cases, there is wide margin for error. If I strictly compared price/hours of every game to Witcher 3, I would have no backlog to speak of. I can think of only one game that managed to beat that - Terraria. Length is not the only or even main factor, but it's one that helps me decide if I can't decide otherwise. Which fits this game: interesting concept of free flight in open world, which may turn out to be just a gimmick that lasts 5 minutes with how small the world is (one of the complaints I saw in a steam review). Graphics is ok but nothing spectacular. Mood and puzzles - can't judge that from screenshots.

What?

Gydion: What?
30 minutes of uninteresting trailers and 1.5-2 hours of movie? As I said, I'm out of date on the topic of cinemas, that's only what I gathered from other sources.

Trailers have nothing to do with the runtime? A half hour difference is the same? I would have assumed no based what you had written. Movies range anywhere from just over an hour to over 3 hours, a few can be even longer. A long movie certainly doesn't not automatically equal a better movie or even a good movie.

Half hour for movies does make difference, it's 30%. How do you compare it to games where the range is 2-500 hours? Ok, 500 is rare, just as 3h movies are rare. We can cap it at 60 for decent RPG = 2900%. From that POV movie length is practically constant and I agree that the length doesn't mean anything about quality. It doesn't say anything about quality of games either and I never meant to imply that it does. Just that if the quality doesn't convince me, then I have to decide based on something else, and price and amount of content IS one of those things that help. This game has some charm, it stays on my wishlist for now.

Was that a Helloween reference?

*Turns around from the bar stool and puts on a frown* We don't take kindly to necromancers like yourself around these parts, but if you had to resurrect a year-old thread just so you'd know, then yes, it most likely was. Now go before my rather ill mannered cleric friends show up on this thread.
