Return to the Arcade.

The wait is finally over: 15 -count 'em- 15 essential SNK NEO・GEO classics that no gamer should be without, are finally available DRM-free on GOG.com!

These are the games that devoured our entire allowance when we were skipping school to beat them at the Arcade. For convenience's sake, we've broken them down into three bundles:

METAL SLUG Bundle: Easily the most insatiable coin-eaters of the bunch, METAL SLUG 1, 2, 3, and X are still just as fun as you remember them from these blessed times. They all come sporting GOG Galaxy support complete with leaderboards, and -with the exception of METAL SLUG 2- both local and online multiplayer functionalities.

Fighting Classics Bundle: These games' legacy is made up of fierce combos, brutal takedowns, and lots of broken controllers: FATAL FURY SPECIAL, SAMURAI SHODOWN 2, SAMURAI SHODOWN V, THE LAST BLADE, THE KING OF FIGHTERS 2000, and THE KING OF FIGHTERS 2002 CLASSIC. Are you up for a rematch? We thought so!

Arcade Games Bundle: The collection would not be complete without these lesser known but equally addictive hidden gems: BLAZING STAR, BASEBALL STARS 2, KING OF THE MONSTERS, SHOCK TROOPERS, and TWINKLE STAR SPRITES.

Get each game individually for -50% or together with its bundle for 75%.
These discounts will last until June 6, 1PM UTC.

NOTE: Make sure to check each game's individual store page for details on their GOG Galaxy supported features.

markrichardb: Cor blimey, sniff that. Smells like gaming history!
[opens a window, fans vigorously]
Does anyone know of a emulator that supports 2 controllers that these games will work with?
While I have absolutely no interest in any of these (NEO-GEO was never really a thing where I live), I do think it's a fantastic release, and hope to see more of this nature here.
Metal Slug and Samurai Showdown, ermagerd. SO getting this stuff. Awesome!

Like... any emulator ever? I don't think there's any issue with doing this.

Christliar: Can 2 players play the Metal Slug games using one keyboard on this release?
You can't play most of the games with one keyboard unless your keyboard supports NKRO. And I doubt it does.
oh wow. picked up the arcade games bundle. shock troopers and baseball stars 2 are enough right there. the other games I haven't played much or unaware of them and are a bonus. I was going to do metal slug but I own most on other platforms! great games.

thanks gog and bada$$ snk peeps for bringing these games here drm-free!
SWEET! 15 classics in a stroke! Thanks GOG & SNK!
Had never heard about SNK Neo Geo, but now I notice that the Commando flash game series looks like a copy of the Metal Slug games.

nicohvc: Now we need the Galaxy multiplayer feature available for those masterpieces! :)
it uses galaxy for all the metal slugs for multiplayer number 2 for some reason does not have online though...

XInput controllers (Logitech F series/Xbox 360) work with them. Emulators like Winkawaks work with both XInput and old Direct Input controllers.

Ganni1987: About the Metal Slug games on Linux:

All 4 games use the DotEmu port, which seems to be the same used in the Humble Bundle versions, the executable for all games is in 64Bit. Performance of each game varies - in heavy action areas it tends to stutter a bit and fps tanks for a few seconds, especially in Metal Slug 2, however they're all still perfectly playable.

As for game save, you can save whenever you want but there is only 1 save file.

That said, I haven't tested the roms with another emulator,

I hope this answers some questions :-)
I noticed the 64 bit Linux executables as well. Interesting, considering the Humble Store releases offer 32 bit AND 64 bit installation.

I really enjoyed playing through the Double Dragon-games in co-op when that released here. What games are worth picking up here if I'm looking for more of the same? I also see a notice on many of them that two controllers are not supported, which is almost a deal breaker.. Do they all support Galaxy multiplayer though?

nightcraw1er.488: Its been available for quite some time elsewhere (HUmble at leas). Lets all celebrate how far behind the curve we are here on GOG.
I've had the Humble releases for well over a year now. Nontheless, I crowbarred my wallet in support of DRM-free releases of my old faves.
Well, I would buy all, or at least Fighting Classics Bundle but terrible timming for me. :(
NeoGeo never was a big thing in my area, but i heard about some of these and will probably buy the Metal Slug bundle (the inspiration behind Mercenary Kings) and possibly also the arcade bundle. Fighting games never were my thing so i will probably skip on that bundle.

Here's hoping that with these arcade/console ports, there's a glimmer of hope that UN squadron makes it to PC and GoG. Hey! A guy can dream can he?
