I think we should still use this thread to inform others about the games that use the "evil" regional pricing scheme (aka more expensive than the base price in certain countries).

The problem is that the definition of base price is now totally moot and us price could be at most now used as a reference price.

Wasn't it the same before? US price = base price, lower price = regional discount, higher price = qualifies for the fair price package.

What changed?
Important question:

Where should I post MaGog's price reports from now on, here or in the flat-priced thread? Pick only one please.

I think you missed the whole catalog becoming regionally priced which makes any other then the flat priced thread pointless. Eitherway who want's to see if a game is priced higher can still look it up on Magog as always.

The flat-priced thread. This one is obviously pointless now.
It's like being forced to retreat to the other side of the river.

Flat priced definitely. This one is now totally pointless.

No, I don't missed it. But I still consider the US price as base price. More or less the whole catalogue is discounted now, but that doesn't make higher-than-base-price-pricing any less evil. I would still love to have a thread where I can find infos about such pricing immediately (Magog helps, but I have to wait a day to get the information I want).

Here. I don't think we will see many more flat priced games in the future and so I think we should reserve that thread for the very few ocassions we might need it.

I guess the flat price thread, since that's the only list/GOGmix I will continue to maintain on pricing. I'll also keep the regional lock one going, assuming other regionally locked games arrive.

Actually only 6 hours at most, but I know what you mean...

Flat-priced it is, see you there.

Pheace: ...Only allowing payment options from the region in question, only allowing the same payment option to be used on x accounts, restricting purchases (even gifts) to X per account total, allowing gifts in those regions but not allow them to be activated if you're not in that region. Stuff like that is more likely I imagine, though none of them are optimal.
I could create a new account, use it only with a proxy IP and buy games using a paypal account. If then the game does not phone home after buying then how would they find out where the buyer is actually located?

On the other hand, if the games phone home and if GOG then restricts access to any part of the services or to the game, would that not be kind of DRM?

We could use the cheapest price as the base price and see all other prices as premiums on the cheapest available price?

That's pretty easy to calculate.

Since practically the entire catalogue is discounted in Russia and since the mean discount is 61.9%, it means that the rest of the world pays about 2.6 times the Russian price, more or less.

And GoG still refuses to make any statement, am I right?

We've decided to adjust our pricing to the realities of the market, to avoid a sense that you have to pay more to get your games DRM-free or that GOG.com games are more expensive than other stores that operate in those regions.
WTF? Every time when I checked, GoG's prizes were consistently twice as high as the ones in the local stores, Amazon and eBay in Germany for the physical versions (including the ones that are DRM free anyway). This argument it bollocks.
