ChaunceyK: Depending on what kind of RPG experience you're looking for right now, I'd recommend one of the two following....

RPG-lite - Might & Magic 1-5 (although I'd suggest skipping 1 & 2 because they are extraordinarily difficult). Not a lot of rp'ing as far as decision making, but these are turn-based movement/combat games. Mow the land of enemies, complete quests, and enjoy a really solid fantasy/sci-fi story.

Hardcore RPG - Arcanum. When I say "hardcore" I mean in the rp'ing aspect, not difficulty (that much is adjustable). The character customization/progression is amazingly diverse, you can be good or evil (or neutral) and still finish the game, combat can be set to real time or turn-based, its a sandbox world with many quests & sub-quests that you can choose to do (or ignore), and it has an amazing story (just be forewarned, you will want to use the unofficial patch to this game...instructions are in the Arcanum forum here on GOG).

Now...I'm not trying to sway you one way or the other. However, I have gifted Arcanum many, many times in the past and if you decide you really want it, I will gift it to you too. Why am I making this offer only for Arcanum? Because I love the game that much and gifting it now & then at random to someone who wants it is what I do. All I ask is that you let me know BEFORE the sale ends so I can get it for you at the sale price.
What kind of RPG is it?
Falloutlike?

Arcanum is the closest game to the original Fallouts I have ever played. Nonetheless, I always felt that the game still needed at least a year in development to actually be able to compete with Fallout games.

I guess I'm interested, especially if it's by Troika. I enjoyed Bloodlines quite a bit. :)
Tallima mentioned Drakensang. Very good choice, you won't find it on GOG but you can buy a retail copy of the "Drakensang Saga". It is DRM-Free*, it's cheap, it's good.

* While it has the Steamworks logo on the DVD cover, the installers are DRM-Free and don't require Steam or any other client or internet connection to activate.
The Divinity and Gothic series should be your main focus, going by what you posted . As for Ultima, at least give the 7th and 8th parts of the series a go, as those have aged much better than the other ones . V:tM games are good too, one of them (Redemption) is on GOG, but you'll have to get the other, Bloodlines, someplace else . Inquisitor should work for you too .

Its a completely different world from Fallout (essentially "new world" Technology vs "old world" Magic) with a much larger primary story. But the customization of your PC and true "role-playing" choices is what makes the game shine.

Have a look at a couple of YouTube videos on it, and if it strikes your fancy, I'll gift it to you (seeing as the OP already bought it before reading my offer).
I just looked at some videos.
The interface looks amazing in comparison to Fallout. The barter screen was terrible. :P
Bloodlines dialogue was quite good. (from what I remember) So this should do me fine.
I would love to play it, thank you for the generous offer. :)

If you like to play something different not in line with the usual fantasy fluff I recommend the Mount & Blade games, they have no story but a lot of objectives to pursue instead.

PM Sent! Enjoy Arcanum!
Septerra Core just went cheaper for 2 hours, I suggest you all to try it if you didn't yet.

Funny you mention Septerra Core....I finally broke down & bought it a couple days ago during the flash sale. I had been very flirty with it for about the past year, wasn't entirely sure whether or not to buy it. But for $1.49, who cares if I end up not liking it?!

I am pretty sure you will love it for the world and story. Graphics are a bit outdated, but the setting and the idea of the spheres is great, love the design of the mechanical creatures and ships too.

Wish to ask, did/do you enjoy the game?
I only got as far as installing it & starting it up to get a feel for it. I definitely like the world its set in!

I would've kept playing, but to make a long story short, my father in-law just went in the hospital last week. I work part-time at the same place he works full-time, and I've been covering his shifts ever since. I just haven't had much chance to keep playing, but I do look forward to it.
