Looks awesome! I really like the art style and the genre. Definitely wishlisted.
"Vikings-themed"?
Don't know which culture the developers used for their game but for sure no Vikings. They never had any horns on their helmets, if they wore helmets at all...

"[...] archaeologists have yet to uncover a Viking-era helmet embellished with horns. In fact, only one complete helmet that can definitively be called “Viking” has turned up. Discovered in 1943 on Gjermundbu farm in Norway, the 10th-century artifact has a rounded iron cap, a guard around the eyes and nose, and no horns to speak of."

nanorider426: *sigh* Why, oh why, do software companies portray vikings with horns on their helmets?
:snip:
But the game looks nice, however, Banished it my kind of game so that is what I'm playing. Not this.
Yeah, I dream of a kind of Banished set in a more real Viking world: hard life as peasants, sometimes seafarers, colonizers, merchants... There is much potential for pretty good viking games which could do it well far from all this popular myth bs... And what do they do? Right, they copy over and over again the horn-helmets. That is really worth a *sigh*

Speaking of annoyances at pop representations of past cultures, Logic Artists did a fine job with the Aztecs (and to some extent, the Caribs) in Expedtiions: Conquistador. If I understood correctly, their next Expeditions game is on a very specific period in Viking history which I no longer remember, but that might be somewhat up everyone's alley if it's more historical accuracy what you're looking for.
My first impression on seeing the trailer was: This looks like a 'cliché clickbait smartphone app game commercial' that you see all the time. :P

Looks nice, but not really my kind of game.
I wasn't sure whether or not I should pre-order it. On one hand I loved Cultures and most of the Settler Series, on the other Hand I was rather disappointed with the remake of Settlers 2 a few years ago and I feared that VH might be just another letdown. (Then I saw that another team developed that remake, but still.) So I decided to look at the team behind VH (which includes Thomas Häuser), watched the videos they put on Youtube [1] where one can see that the input of the players is very important to them and got more and more convinced. That they offer a GNU/Linux version is also a big plus in my book. In the end I decided to give them a chance and pre-ordered.

[1] Most of them are in German though, due to the fact, that the German-speaking countries are their main market. Here a link to the official VH videos in English: http://www.valhalla-hills.com/?cat=19&lang=en (I hope links are allowed...)
While I have no doubt the 20% discount will be surpassed in the future (maybe when the first DLC releases...), I decided to pre-order after all. The game seems interesting, and I hope it can live up to the promise of a rogue-like with a new focus.

tinyE: Are there any Scandinavians here that get upset about your brave ancestors being represented as Smurfs? :P
To a degree, yes. But then I went out on a raid and pillaged a few villages. Threw a few axes, burned down a couple of monasteries...you know, the usual. That made me feel somewhat better about it. ;P
I am kinda disappointed that the "bonus" video you get is just the same old one that's been up for ages on the company's site.

Nevertheless, December finally approaches!
Is there going to be an option to upgrade from basic Valhalla Hills version to the two Helmets Edition later?

Well, other games with a basic/deluxe edition pre-order had their deluxe upgrade option made available when a game has been released (like various Devolver Digital games). Then, there is something like Pillars of Eternity with no upgrade options as of yet...

I figure it'll likely be on sale (and replaced with a new "set" if/when DLC 3 comes out), but I'm not sure how many games give upgrade options of these.

(Hopefully someone can answer before the Game is up.)
Just saw that Valhalla Hills is gettng a new update before release which will include a new AI enemy the so called Dome Dwarves that will exit special gateways and start spreading out on your island. These will be more classical enemies aka enemy nation. Should be interesting to fight them.

Gah!

But I already preordered... *sighs*

I guess I can put up with them.

*reads*
Oh good. "you've got the option to activate the Dome Dwarfs". Meaning I can choose not to and just leave it as Vikings vs Nature, as advertised.

Yeah, they added the option cause people were complaining that fighting the nature and the portal is not enough and the game doesn't have enought content. Aka basically they wanted from Funatics to change it in to a Settlers copy :)

Though im interested how the Dome Dwarves are since they weren't tested in early access.
Nvm.
