The infectious commitment to life.

Shardlight, the post-apocalyptic adventure of a young woman desperately looking to cure herself, is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 10% launch discount.

Amy was five when the bombs dropped. This broken, severely oppressed, and hopelessly depressed world is all she knows. Now, twenty years after the catastrophe, people are still dying in the streets stricken by poverty and disease, while the corrupt aristocrats control the regulation of the cure in exchange for cheap labor and obedience.

Amy is sick herself but she is not about to go out with a whimper. She'd rather rattle the shaky foundations of a government that has people like her slaving away for a chance at a vaccination. All around her, among the ruins of what humanity once was, people are scavenging for scraps of a better tomorrow that seems to keep moving further and further out of reach. But not Amy. She is determined to fight for her life, even if she has to pay the ultimate price.

Point'n'click at the bowels of a terminally ill world and find a cure to your ailment in Shardlight, DRM-free on GOG.com. If you have the bonus fevers, go ahead and grab Shardlight - Special Edition, which includes the game's OST, voice-over outtakes, a concept art gallery, wallpapers, and other delicious goodies, or opt to upgrade later. The 10% launch discount will last until March 15, 4:59 PM GMT.
Woah, another Wadget Eye game? VERY cool news. All their other games have ranked from "very cool" to "gripping" for me, so this baby will be mine as soon as it releases :)
^The cool news is actually very HOT!
The game is released today. Get it, download it and start playing.
Pre-order period has passed. Now is the right time to buy. ;)

Leroux: GOG still needs to make this clear in their announcement and ideally also on the game page. The way it is now, it's suggesting to customers that this Special Edition will cost $14.99 after release, but if I understood correctly, the regular version will cost $14.99 and the Special Edition content $5 on top of it? If that's the case, the current advertisement ("you save $1.50") is misleading.

Vythonaut: It looks like it will be that way indeed:

- Standard Edition (aka Special): $14.99
- Deluxe Edition: $19.99

The way they named the preorder edition (Special) lead me to think that there could be a normal (cheaper) edition for those not interested in the extras. Confusing, but I guess it is quite clear now. Still, no preordering for me - I'd rather wait for the actual release on March, 8th and hope I won't spend my money on another release in the meantime. :P
a little more info would be nice , but in the Techno babylon it was kinda the same:
a while back I preordered it and got the dlx edition: €14.19 (preorder,)
so basically GoG is not doing wrong, but extra info never hurts.

I always take the time to read everything, i even check if its regionally priced, then i add the remaining store credit on my account and then i make the decision if i preorder it or not.
I preordered Guild of Dungoneering a while ago aswell cause it would give the first addon for free.
So its just a matter of adding things up, have a price in mind you would pay for a certain game(every game has its own price)

Looks interesting but I'll wait for a linux version, if it ever gets released.

AlienMind: Would buy this title if it had higher resolution than 320x200. - OR - AGS supporting xBRZ
use the exe file: winsetup in the game folder, you can play around with it and see if you can get a better resolution

you can window it or full screen

choosing 960 and displaying in a window on a high resolution makes the character smaller and crips but the blurry face stays

Plus side is you can see the desktop, and the clock :D now you wont have to keep watching your clock in your room, or wristwatch (or phone) to see how long you are gaming.

Just play around with the settings, i assume the settings depend on what gpu you have, i dont know for certain,.

Should run fine on Wine, which holds true for pretty much every AGS-made game. Also, all of Wadjet Eye's prior games that boast a Mac or Linux version here on GOG are run with Wine.

hqx isn't bad, but I like xbrz more, especially on areas without a clear geometry: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/6c/HQx-xBRZ-comparison.png (see wall area)

I don't mind if a linux game uses WINE under the hood, as long as it is officially released for linux. At least I'll be sure that the game was tested and runs well. However, I don't understand developers who use cross-platform tools and don't bother to make non-Windows versions of their games. Btw, I've just installed Gemini Rue, and I don't see any traces of WINE in it.

Hm. Maybe I'm mistaken. For some reason I thought those older ones were running Wine, but apparently there do exist Mac and Linux compatible versions of AGS. The more you know...

Either way, does it really matter if there is an "official" Linux version if it runs without problems via Wine?

Usually not, but sometimes what really runs well and what not needs to be experimentally determined. If there is an official version, then I know that it will run almost surely. On the other hand, even with platinum compatibility on winehq it is not unusual to get occasional problems.

AGS is actively developed on Linux. There hasn't been a viable Mac build for any remotely recent version of OS X for years. All the GOG Mac versions are wrapped in Wineskin.
Graphics and the mood looks amazing.

thats right... it has a overall sad atmosphere with desperate people, hoping they get the next vaccin in the lottery.
i havent finished any wadjet eye game sofar, but i assume most of the 'heroes' in the games will kick the bucket.

Random Ben Chandler fanboy comment incoming: anyone who appreciated the unassuming bleakness of PISS should totally go ahead and try Shardlight.

Actually scratch that: anyone who loves narrative-driven adventure games should try Shardlight. I'm quite taken with it. Yep, I said it, I meant it, I'm here to represent it.

And I think I'm in love with Amy's voice too.
