RottenRotz: I see no point in buying this

tinyE: Are you not a fan or do you think screwing with the original is totally unnecessary? I can see both points but I'm curious where you stand.
Im definitely a fan :)

See I am too and that's why I'll buy this. It's like mod. When it comes to Postal I want all the original stuff and every variation I can find. I want it all. ;P

No but Michael Buffer can sue anyone who says "Let's get ready to rumble."

Just kidding,i sense you in a way.Im a big fan of Heroes 3 but i would never get HD remaster. Why?because its crap, and even worse this crap costs money.
So I may of been a little too hard on it at first glance, but some of the problems I bring to the table are definitely issues that bring down the experience compared to the original. But at the same time to be completely fair neither version is really that much better or worse than the other and it was never perfect. You can say the new one is definitely improved with overall presentation and controls though (both handle extremely well with a controller however). But it finds itself in that odd territory where it's darker than P2 but not as gritty as P1, the atmosphere just doesn't come off as the same.

This also finds itself in an odd territory of faithful remakes, in that more often than not we rag on some newer rendition of a series as not being a 1:1 replica to the original's source material, but here I think it was too faithful, outside of some improved controls and slightly different mechanics you will get essentially the same experience more or less back in 1997. This was most likely done on purpose though, as they knew they could only do so much with the old version that they wanted to keep it as faithful as possible with the new one so that purists won't complain and can experience the same game only 'better' and continue to support it with more modern updates that'd probably be a pain in the ass to do with the old one.

Also a lot of my issues I've brought to the table on Steam discussions seem to be getting addressed so we should be seeing all kinds of improvements down the line for the Redux in addition to the wealth of new content already planned. So here's hoping this currently mediocre remaster can bump up to a decent or even better game than the original which I personally found was passably decent.
let me tell you about the future..
Q: Will there be a DRM-free release on, say, GOG.com, or perhaps a boxed edition?

A: All of our games on Steam are DRM-free, and Redux is no exception. Though the game uses Steam for distributionand installation, it doesn’t actually use the Steamworks DRM, so you don’t need Steam to run it. After Redux isinstalled, you can freely uninstall Steam and continue playing, if you so choose. We will be putting Redux on GOG.com in the future, though.

We’ve looked into doing a physical release of Redux that will be available from our store in the future.

I wouldn't be so sure there is no steamworks involved..
