The free Shadwen Demo, where you can try out your silent killing techniques in a bleak medieval environment, is now available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Time stands still, as Shadwen lurks behind a dark corner, wishing that the little girl cowering beside her didn't have to witness the brutal scene that is about to unfold. But maybe she won't. Perhaps there is another way to get past these guards, climb on that scaffold and continue on her mission to assassinate the king. Before you take any action time stands still, allowing you to change plans on the spot and even rewind failed attempts. Killing might not be necessary, as long as Shadwen manages to stay hidden.

In anticipation of the stealth-action game, where you move freely among the shadows of a gritty medieval setting, developers Frozenbyte are releasing the Shadwen Demo and GOG.com is jumping in on the action! You will have the opportunity to sample Shadwen's light-footed scaling and stealth-assassination mechanics in a fully-playable area of the game and win awesome prizes in the process. The demo will be available on our store between February 24th and February 29th but, once added, you will be able to access it from your GOG.com library forever. All individual scores of those playing the demo will contribute to a global community score; the higher the global tally, the lower Shadwen's launch price will be. Head here for more details.

GOG.com CONTEST
We decided to do something extra for all the GOGers out there who want to try the free demo, so we are launching our own parallel contest where you must lunge #fromtheshadows for a chance to win awesome Shadwen swag!

The basics:
—Grab the Shadwen Demo and reach the end of the level without raising alarms, suspicions, or your blade against the guards. Staying hidden earns you more points.
—Screenshot the stat screen: Complete the demo level scoring as many points as you can, then post the image(s) below or tweet them at twitter/GOGcom with the "#fromtheshadows @GOGcom" tags.
—Grab sweet swag: The 10 highest-scoring assassins will get a Shadwen t-shirt and a free copy of Shadwen, courtesy of Frozenbyte. In case more than 10 entries are tied for the top spots, their submissions will enter a raffle.

So put on your soft leather gloves, don your darkness-colored robes, and exercise your rope-throwing: unsung glory and awesome prizes await!
The event will last until February 29th. Winners will be announced in the forums soon afterwards.

Contest Winners Announced!
The winners are in!

Due to an in-game bug making it impossible to do an undetected + no kill run worth 1600 points, there was a bit of confusion about eligible entries. To make things fair, we considered both the never-detected runs (1100 points) and kill-everyone runs (1110 points) to be eligible for the grand prizes — but with no more than one entry per person.

Since there were more than 10 eligible entries, we ran a raffle powered by the random number generator at random.org

And the winners are:
RabidGears
Goatbrush
w0lf1k
LiefLayer
Sablelune
Aningan
Aceso
Pixelion
GothaBlutauge
@Asaldar_

Thanks for playing Shadwen on GOG! We'll be reaching out to the winners individually to get your T-Shirt sizes and addresses. In the meantime... stay hidden, friends.
Here's my entry. Not a great score, but I didn't know about this game, so I went blind on it, did the best I can with only that short video explaining something.

So GOG is now providing demos for games? At least I hope it's not just a one time thing, but possibly the start of a new store feature. Maybe they should make the demo for Cornerstone: Song of Tyrim available here as well.

As for the game, at a first glance this seems like a European Medieval version of Tenchu, which could be pretty damn fun. The other game elements/features sound interesting as well, and to top it off, those screenshots sure look pretty.

And isn't this by the same dev team as the Trine series?
Demos are always good, especially before the release. Now made my mind and probably gonna skip it . Prefer Styx when comes to stealth.
Martek - according to the shadwen website you can play it fully offline, it just won't be able to upload the ending score(s) if you're offline (obviously). Sounds to me like it only transmits the final score when you complete the demo. I can't get the demo til tomorrow to check and see if there is any traffic flow while playing the game online...but that will be easy enough to do.

And according to the gog contest the only way you're going to win is if you complete the demo full stealth without killing or even being seen (unless everybody who enters just sucks). So yeah, I'd imagine it's ghostable. But the various ways you can kill guards do look pretty tempting and fun (that means replay value, like Dishonored, to me).

Is there a limit on the number of times you can replay the demo?
Thanks Frozenbyte and gog! A new Stealth game, nice. :D

Will download the demo, but won´t participate (I love the killing "route" in stealth games too much to try a "sneaky hidden" run ). I wish everyone that enters the contest the best of luck though. ;)

I love stealth games, if I enjoy the game this will be an instabuy.

Nope.
This looks a lot like styx master of shadows judging from the trailer, though the story mcguffin seems to be more unique.

You should be able to play without any restrictions. -> The demo will be available on our store between February 24th and February 29th but, once added, you will be able to access it from your GOG.com library forever.
Can it run without a dedicated GPU card? XD

Hadn't noticed that before. I just added the demo to my library because of that. I didn't really want to try the demo before because maybe I'd get high hopes that maybe I'd be able to run it on my system, only to have them crushed by the game not running. At least now I'll able to download and play the demo later, in one of those days when I feel like having my hopes crushed or something...
edit-I also wonder how my graphics card will fare. We're talking about a card that wasn't able to run Shantae: Risky's Revenge after the 1st scene for some reason(it showed a grey screen, thankfully gog gave store credit)...
edit2-I'd rather prefer that the demo would be downloadable directly from the developer's website, but anyways, in a day when demos aren't granted, what's a gamer to do...

Now this is interesting. Is this the first time GOG has posted a demo game? I wish GOG could post demos of other games so people could try before they buy. :P
Just added this game to the community wishlist a few hours ago, now I can play the demo for free. GOG is great, isn't it? :)

To play on a powerful PC (regarding the gaming requirements) is a question of wealth, but to play on Mac or Linux is a question of choice in my opinion. That's my vision of "fair for everybody".
But as Groze said previously, it's a demo and it's free. We can try it and if the game doesn't run, we can keep it forever in the library and waiting for a better machine ; )

Treasure: Ok then it's my fault for buying laptops instead of desktop pcs because of lack of space, and being a cheapass, wanting to avoid buying something over 400-500 euros (gaming laptops are over 1000 euros). Fair enough I guess... I guess I can use that fact I have a "crappy" pc (in quote marks because it's not crappy at all, compared to the 1gb Ram pc I had previously) to focus more on my backlog then...
Could you just... stop it? OK, you ( and many others here, I'm sure ) have a somewhat outdated PC, and likely can't run games such as this one. That's too bad, and honestly I'm sorry you can't play this or other more recent games, but that's just the way it is. What exactly do you intend to accomplish by making half a dozen complaint posts? Are you really suggesting that devs should only develop games for old/low range PCs? Just look at the screenshots -- obviously you can't pull off this kind of game without some decent hardware power. And those who own a reasonably up to date PC want games such as this one or Witcher 3. They didn't buy their hardware so they could play Minesweeper in 4K. :P

GOG offers a wide range of old games, and Indie games with low requirements, so it's not like there isn't already a huge selection of titles available for low to mid-range PCs. Modern games with high requirements are still the exception here, so it's kind of bizarre you're complaining about them.
