Hello,

Could you guys give me some recommendations for platformer games with great bosses?
I've found La Mulana which is looking great. I was looking for others on GOG but most platformers seem to emphasize puzzles instead of bossfights.
Any recommendations would be appreciated!

If you don't want the puzzle focus you'll need a walkthrough for La-Mulana.
The puzzles are brutal. xD

I think of a million NES titles like that but that does you no good in here. :P

Is Manhattan Project still being sold? That has some nice boss fights.

I heavily enjoyed Treasure Adventure Game, and don't think it was too puzzly (though it was a while since I played it). You have probably already played it - but if you for whatever insane reason have yet to do so, DO SO. Since it's free, you've got nothing to loose except time.

Welp, looks like I found what platformer I'LL be playing next.

There is a freeware version of La-Mulana with an English translation patch available. The graphics and music are significantly different, but most of the gameplay is similar to the remake that is sold on GOG. I recommend trying the freeware version, since La-Mulana is a love-it-or-hate-it affair. Completing the Guidance Gate area should be enough to tell if the game is right for you.

Anyhow, platformers and boss fights? Cave Story is worth a shot, as is Shovel Knight. If you got an emulator or the appropriate hardware, I recommend the Megaman and Megaman X platformers - much of the focus is on the boss fight at the end of each stage, where the correct tools and pattern memorization are key. I personally prefer Megaman 7, Megaman & Bass, and Megaman X1 through X3.

I actually own the remake already (just haven't played it yet), but thanks for the heads-up.

Rayman Origins is an excellent platformer with some really fun and interesting bosses.

I'd say Pid, but I can't recommend the game in good conscience, because other than the interesting boss fights, I found the game... well I can't put my finger on it, but there was something wrong with it. But your mileage might vary; it could be an acquired taste.

It's not like the fights are easy either. :p
Hints to puzzles are cryptic/located in different areas than the puzzle itself. You'll have my respect if you beat it without help. Can't even imagine. xD
Pretty sure one of the boss fights made me quit. :l
No checkpoints in boss fights did not fit the game.

Playing countless old and unfair adventure games has prepared me for this. Those games from back in the days where you actually had to have a notepad with you to beat the gosh darned thing.

Then I would like some of your respect too! :) I did finish La-Mulana without walkthrough nor any hint whatsover. I must admit, I solved a puzzle or two just by a pure luck but during the game I usually knew what and why I was doing. The key was to realize that the puzzles were not actually cryptic. They were trolling you all the time! After that I had a feeling that the most absurd idea was probably a solution and after half a year (I made long breaks because I didn't want to be frustrated) I finished the game :D one of my best achievements in gaming
