If they do add something like a transgendered companion I'm hoping they at least give them a personality beyond "Look at me! I'm transgendered!". I find that extremely unlikely so I hope they just avoid the issue.

That was dumb. One of the reason I don't want Beamdog writing new content. Experience has shown they suck at it.

However, when inventing direct speech for a badly written progressive-bait token of a character, "transgendered" is simply unrealistic. Crap writers will still write transphobic caricatures, but they will know enough to use commonly preferred words.

I won't deny EE are "convenient" for the newcomers, but seriously, they should polish those animations. They seem pretty "low fpsy" and not fluid at all (the original had really fluid animations for the characters, seriously, wtf happened?). Otherwise, already played the sh17 out of the original so no interest in buying the same game again (specially since I won't be playing it again any time soon).

If you bought the original Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2 as well as Icewind Dale on Gog, the originals are still in your collection and downloadable.
If you are worried about losing access to the original Planescape Torment , and do not own it yet, now is the time to buy it as once bought the titles are not taken from you even if Gog loses its rights to sell the game.
I worried about losing games when the original fallout series had this happen but still have those original games I bought now showing up as fallout classic and Gog thinking I do not own Fallout due to that time it happened.
I believe Gog's policy is once you buy a game it's yours to keep whether they stop selling it or not so if you have the original Planescape Torment , you won't lose it.
Even Darksiders Warmastered Edition has a legacy edition too that is for people that do not like the warmastered edition.
Gog does pretty well in making sure no one loses access to games they bought in the past when stuff like this happens so there should be no worry about losing the original if you already own it.
If you are on the fence about getting the original now is the time to do it as the Enhanced Edition of Planescape Torment does not come out until April 11th.

It seems like it will work out. It is definitely appealing to those who want to play it without having to browse through lists of mods and hope that the ones they install do not cause the game to crash. I still remember trying to play the original Baldur's Gate with a resolution mod that ended up causing the game to crash too frequently. I ended up removing the mod, reinstalling the game, and playing through it without the mod.
People commented on the Youtube video about mods but then people countered by saying that they tried it and ended up with more issues and brought up the point about people who just want to install the game and just be able to play it without browsing through mods and hoping that they got the right ones. People keep forgetting that games are meant to be enjoyed and that it should be on the developers to make a functional product and not the customers.

Kudos for typing that on the phone. What you wrote is on par with what I know about the remasters, I haven't played neither Baldur's Gate nor Planescape: Torment up until now, even though I own them for years.
Question now is:
Should I wait for the PT remaster? Are they really that bad? I've heard they changed/added companions, but I can't, I won't believe they altered an existing party and/or story to something worse. After all those years!
With games that old I tend to suspect good old nostalgia as culprit for most of the criticism. Also for the praise, so there's that.
But, what I also thought immediately after reading about the announcement and as others have pointed out, already,
why don't they create original games that are based on own concepts and visions? Remaking a game once can count as hommage and a paying of respect to the original, but doing that all the time seems uninspired and lazy to me. I'm missing initiative and creativity and if the remasters really aren't that good, I wonder if I want to support Beamdog at all. They only recycled old Bioware and Black Isle games, since their foundation in 2010. I'll wait and watch. And wait a bit longer, until I find the time to actually play the originals.

The reality is probably somewhere between those viewpoints.

The reality is probably somewhere between those viewpoints.
Would be interesting to now if:
1. The developers, themselves fans of the originals, regard the remasters as good.
2. The developers have deliberately decided to create those games or if they are forced to do so due to financial or contractual obligations.
