zeroxxx: Pinatas is a gamble, period.
Period? More like dot dot dot! If you want to have all the games inside and they are usually more expensive than 3$, then it is not a gamble. (<- Period now)

mrkgnao: Thanks for the link. I hope you can see the wide smile on my face. Haven't heard that song in years.

As for gifting. Be a dear and find me someone to gift Machinarium to.

That's an idea, but too easy to exploit by emptying one's wishlist and leaving there only one game.
avatar
IronArcturus: Or put some kind of lower limit of at least 5 games per wishlist?
But then how would they get rid of all the Machinariums, Alcatrazes and Guacamelees that are on practically nobody's wishlists and are positively clogging their warehouse?

Not exactly. Suppose you do want to have them all, but you also happen to already own all except one, let's say Republique, then it's a huge gamble, because your chance of actually getting that game rather than one you already own is in the range of 2% or less.

You can refund anything on GOG within a certain amount of time (I believe 14 days EDIT: Apparently it's 30 days, I was mistaken) as long as you haven't downloaded it. Or had someone else redeem it, in the case of a gift code.

where do you see that you can refund for non-technical issues? im looking at the policy and it only says technical.

From the User Agreement, under 6.7:

d) Withdrawal Right: we give you the right to withdraw from a purchase of GOG content without charge and for any reason within 30 days after you bought that GOG content, IF it has not been downloaded, streamed, activated or used in any way before then. If any of those things happen then your withdrawal right is lost.

EDIT: Also, credit to EckoShy for noticing this in another thread.

ok so how? Nothing like this is listed in technical support contact options.

saruchan: And once the pinata breaks it's normally a free-for-all to grab what comes out.
I like that. Imagine the following:
Every time one breaks a Pinata open by buying it all kinds of games fall out of the Pinata and everyone has a chance to pick them up by clicking on them. Of course, this wouldn`t bring much profit for GOG, so they want to do this only on special occasions, like their 10th birthday for example.
But I like the idea!!! :-)

That part I don't know about. I made a refund request myself, and I had to just kind of give my best guess since there didn't seem to be a proper option for it. I think I ended up settling on "Problems with website and user accounts and GOG Galaxy -> Other". I mentioned in the ticket not knowing what the correct option was, so maybe they'll tell me when they respond. If they do, I'll be sure to share that information here.

saruchan: Just because games have been on sale for less than the current amount doesn't necessarily mean that $3 is a bad deal. I doubt that most Terraria purchases were at the lowest ever sale prices, for example (this seems to be the one example people have for games that have been sold at less than $3).
Yep, Terraria could arguably be considered worth more than the $2.50 it has often gone on sale for. However, when the game that someone's getting is random and potentially something they won't even be particularly interested in, there's some expectation of getting more for your money than you would have otherwise. Getting something that has gone on sale multiple times for a little less than what you paid is at the very least unlikely to impress anyone. They should have tried to make sure that any games included in a $3 random offer were at least not previously put on sale for under $3.

avatar
saruchan: It isn't as if they're currently selling it here for $2 while having it for $3 in the pinata. Also, a lot of the lure of mystery sales/pinata sales/etc. is experiencing something you might not have purchased otherwise and possibly finding out you like it.
Who knows, maybe they'll put it on sale once they change up the pinata contents in the next day, and stuff like Hotline Miami and World of Goo might appear in the next set of pinatas. : P

Sure, a good part of the lure in things like this is in the surprise of what you get, but when what people get is a little underwhelming, it's unlikely they'll want to come back for more. I've bought packages of random merchandise from a deal site in the past, but at least in that case you have a package to look forward to in the mail, and the company always made sure customers got merchandise that added up to more than what they paid, even at sale prices. And of course, you got more than one thing, so something was bound to interest you, at least a bit.

Everything must go!
