Yeah, not gonna try that again.

Just for statistics sake: tried my luck and bought a piñata, got Heroes of Might and Magic III, a game I couldn't care less about (as I was pretty much expecting).

I also bought Stories Untold for €5 from the "proper" sale at the same time, since I knew I would probably get a 'Not My Thing' personal GOG tag game from the piñata.

It's not fully random. They always try to give you game you don't own as long as they still have them available.
As he already got Her Story, he could only get that one again if he already owned every other game on offer in the piñata or GOG ran out of copies of the ones he doesn't have.

From the FAQ:

Can I get duplicates of games I already own?
Short answer: No duplicates! You'll only get games you don't already own.

Long answer: No duplicates, unless you already own every single game available in the Piñata pool at the time of your purchase. If you already have all the games, you'll be notified before checking out and your mystery game will be converted into a giftable copy – this code will never expire.

Looking like the ones I was wanting are all gone.

There should be 41 or so games available that I don't have - tried three times and all duplicates :(

I got Thimbleweed Park, Metro 2033 Redux and The Guild 2

I know nothing about The Guild 2, but as far as I'm concerned, your piñata purchase was already worth it for Metro 2033 Redux and Thimbleweed Park alone. Well, if you're into those sorts of games, of course... I got Heroes of Might and Magic 3, which apparently is a great game, but I'm not even going to install it, since it's not my kind of game at all.

As a major adventure game geek, having grown up with all the LucasArts classics, I can't recommend Thimbleweed Park enough; it's downright one of the best -- if not THE best -- point & click adventures I've played in recent years, right up there with the first two Monkey Island games (also designed by Ron Gilbert) or Day of the Tentacle. If you don't care much about point & click adventures, though, I can see how this piñata means nothing for you.

I wonder why I got duplicates instead of those first two . . . don't have them, but failed three times.

Paid 2.69€ and got Imperium Galactica which is currently on sale for 2.69€. I am not interested at all in that game and did not have the opportunity to gift it to someone else. That really sucks GOG. At least include games of which sale prices are higher than a pinata ticket
