So how do you think pc gaming is like in 20 years or gaming in general.Since pc will always be the superior platform against anything im pretty sure we are on photorealistic level where you can’t even tell if its real or not.Maybe you can upgrade consoles too who knows which can give you the full pc gaming experience. So what are your thoughts about the future?Lg
The only thing I'm sure of is that we'll still be waiting for Half-Life 3.

PC gaming is in a constant state of, for want of a better word, nerfdom, because the majority of top publishers design their games around consoles. If games were designed exclusively around PCs, innovation would leave consoles in the poor man's lane. The future won't change because people like simplicity and consoles are just that.
Introducing the PS43!
People will be super hyped about whatever new VR/motion/telepathic controler and forever online social networked games and I will still be here, playing single player games with a mouse and keyboard. And feeling super smug about it too.
In twenty years i am still playing games from my backlog...on mostly the same hardware/os like today.
I guess GoG will be GvOG...Good very old Games

I guess streaming and vr will be much more present.

Economically weaker countries will have a higher share of players because they have made an economic upswing.
E-sports will be equal to the traditional sport - monetary as well as cultural.

Not everyone owns a top end PC. Most gaming PCs on the market can't keep up with current gen consoles because people upgrade their PCs less frequently. They don't nerf solely for the console crowd, they do it for the largest part of the PC gaming market: the middle of the road hardware crowd.

If by then PC gaming as we know it still exists, gamers will reminisce fondly and with nostalgia over the good old days 20 years ago when games were still games and all good, not as dumbed down and shitty as in recent times. They will rant that everything was better back then and mock the youth for never having heard of such great classics as Anthem, Fallout 76, Mass Effect: Andromeda, or Wolfenstein: Youngblood. In newer games they will miss all that cool hardcore stuff from back then, like checkpoints, one-slot autosaves, lootboxes, microtransactions, horse armor DLCs, etc. Fortunately, some indie developers will step up and re-introduce all of it in retro-games that will make you feel just as cozily uncomfortable and happily frustrated as you were back in 2019!

The money is in the console market because that's what people choose, simplicity. Current gen consoles are infinitely inferior to current gen PCS. Fact. Where are publishers and developers going to focus their products? Where the money is. The fact that people don't update their PCs as often is because of the diversity and complexity of the hardware. As stated, people want simplicity so innovation is stifled.

Indeed, because the games play more "authentic" on a floppy. :P

Youre missing the point. Most home computers don't compete with consoles in hardware performance. Perhaps because people have invested in those consoles, but generally, people don't keep high end gaming machines around. Simplicity is part of it, cost is another. Top end PCs today are better than console hardware, but the gap may not be as wide as you think. And it is only the top end of PCs, which is a minuscule part of the market.
- Technology will continue to improve whilst the dumbing down continues. Our kids will go "WOAH. THAT'S DEEP" at old videos of Candy Crush Saga whilst looking upon Planescape Torment like the cavemen touching that monolith at the start of 2001: A Space Odyssey.

- 'Micro-transactions' will be renamed "Brawndo" and 'having fun in games' renamed "Electrolytes". If you've seen the movie Idiocracy, no explanation is needed...

- Everyone will own a 64x core Threadripper CPU of which 8x cores will be used by the game and 56x cores reserved for the multi-layered Denuvo v19 + VMProtect 12 + Arxan 9, etc, DRM

- Crysis 9 will be photo-realistic, all 3.5hrs of it

- Gamers will still be crying out for fresh new IP in a 2040 world of Call of Duty 326, Far Cry 92, or Tomb Raider 137 : The Rebooted Remastered Pre-Sequelled Sequel Special VR Definitive Enhanced GOTY Refreshed HD Elite Gold Collectors Edition Reloaded

- Pixel Art will still be the in thing

- I'll still be playing Deus Ex (2000)

- And GOG gamers will still be complaining about the forums ;-)

I'm unsure if humanity will still be around in 20 years, let alone PC gaming!
