The save games are on your pc.

Unless you're referring to Steam Cloud which would require you to install from Steam to get the save.
GOG can't "move" the Steam Cloud saves.

All they're doing is looking at your Steam games list. Saying "Hey, we got this one too. The publisher allowed us to give you a copy on GOG as well if you own it on Steam so here you go".

Just goes to show you, storing everything in the cloud is not good. All my saves are local, can access them from anywhere I like.

Viva le anti-client!

You mean to say that if you go visit a friend and he says he would like to have a different endgame save of The Witcher to import in The Witcher 2, you can grab your save while using his computer and give it to him? O_o
If you mean that you can use the save of your retail version to use in GOG's version, the same holds true with the cloud saves as well, assuming the game uses compatible saves of course (Reus, I'm looking at you).

Surely, you mean CAN'T access them from wherever you like?

Nope, I can access them from wherever I am, its this mysterious new magic called a USB stick. My one has portable apps, various games, documents etc. on and is around the size of your little finger.

Ah, so for friendless people, use local saves only, for people with friends, cloud saves may be useful. Gotcha.

Because he already played the game once and saw one of the 3 endings, but doesn't like the one he got. So instead of having to play through the whole game again, having a save of one of the other endings would be helpful. That is what friends do you know, they help each other out.
Other reason would be that because of missing a monster during Chapter 1, he couldn't get one of the excellent swords in the game, that does get imported into the second game (from what I recall). Thus why you'd offer to help him out, instead of having him spend 40+ hours doing the same things, just because he missed a fight.

Or simply so you can show him your state of the game so you can brag about it, but not sure that The Witcher would qualify for brags.
For some reason, some people believe you must save to the cloud if you want to be able to access you game saves (or any file for that matter) from 'anywhere'. Sad, that.

Easily, yeah.
You actually have to remember to bring it with you if it's not saved in the cloud.

Nah, I thought I would get that one in first. Got to say in 30 odd years of playing I have never been that desparate for a new shiny sword I would replay a game, or ask anyone else to get it for me. Even back in the days, multiplayer was play it then forget about it, sure you might show that you shaved a hundreth of a second off your ghost castle time, but then you went to the pub and forgot all about it. Whats the point seeing an ending you haven't earned? This is why I don't understand watching youtubes of people playing games or such like of the modern day gaming.

Anyways, doesn't bother me, pop your whole life on the cloud, eventually it will fail, or at least lock you into watching adverts.

This isn't true, I can get anything and everything I need remotely. It's not rocket science.

I can't.
I'd probably need to set something up to be able to do that?
My pc is usually off when I'm not home.

I give up. It's like talking to somebody from 2006.

There are several ways to do it, some are more secure than others.

I don't leave my PC on either, but I do have a NAS that's on all the time.
