Maxvorstadt: Well, basically you get stars when you reached enuff REP.
I don`t know exactly, but I guess the first star you get when you reach 20 or 25 REP. Second is at 50 or 100 points. Third must be around 500 points, if I remember correctly.
25 rep
second is at 100
third is at 500
fourth is at 1000
fifth is ...2000 or 2500

And for those who want to know how to get Rep:

1 Rep for every day you post in the forums
1 - 12 Rep for upvoted posts (limited per day, so you can`t get from 0 to 1000 Rep within a few days).
5 Rep for having one of your posts marked as solution.
5 Rep (or even more) for reviews that are marked as helpfull.

Loosing Rep:

1 - 12 Rep if posts of you are heavily downvoted (limited per day, so one can`t reduce a 1000 Rep score to zero within few days, but still heavy losses).

The question is: does the star stay, in case you are derepped again? So do those stars mark the highest rep ever achieved? Or will it go away like a shooting star if your rep falls below 25? ... But then again, you can make a wish on the shooting star. :-)

Hm, afair Zeo once had more than 100 Rep before he got into the downrep storm, so I guess, that you`ll lose your stars again if you fall below the needed rep score for them.
