ktchong: Only idiots would buy a fresh release from Obsidian. Sure, they might have had some great ideas in the long past, but they could not program a decent, stable product even if their lives depended on it. Their newly released games are always buggy and unplayable.

That is why gamers (who might have admired their efforts and ideas) stopped buying their games after awhile, and that's why those guys keep going bankrupt over and over again, (And I've heard Obsidian is not doing so well after New Vegas.) I refuse to buy another game from them until they learn how to properly code, quality-control and release a stable game.
The fuck are you on. New Vegas was considerably more stable than Fallout 3, and Dungeon Siege 3 was rock solid, if boring. Alpha Protocol had issues with the quicksaving, but was otherwise solid. Hell, the only really incomplete and buggy game they've developed was KOTOR2, and it was still vastly superior to the Bioware game.

That's probably the point of going of going to Kickstarter. Brian Fargo himself admitted that the reason he Kickstarted Wasteland 2 was because every single major publisher turned him down.

What makes you think a publisher in today's video gaming market would fund a PC-only (no multi-platform release) hardcore RPG?

And even if they did get a publisher, that publisher would probably demand changes to appeal to a broader market, ie dumbing down for console crowd.

Well, it was down for me for about a minute just after the KS launched.

I just don't understand why will they release it on that fucking Steam DRM system .
RPGCodex is working fine for me.
Sounds promising. Obsidian haven't let me down yet, so I'll back this one for sure.

Heh. You know, I just realized that the future for RPGs looks pretty decent right now. With Wasteland 2, Dead State, The Banner Saga, Conquistador and possibly even this on the way, there's a lot to look forward to. :D
Put down $20 because it's Chris fucking Avellone (and Scott Everts). Will pledge $140 if they have a non-Steam version included.

Possibly linked to achievements. Also, steam has the most prominent presence in digital distribution.

If they're really that creative, how come they're making YAMFR?*

No idea either, it's not like Obsidian couldn't just host the game as DRM-free on their own website for people who want it that way, and if you want it on steam you can have it there. But I imagine lots of backers will be pushing for that in the next, after all backers are paying for it and it's not an unreasonable request.

And oh damn that video, Sawyer, Chris Avellone, Tim Cain, all in the space of a few minutes talking about old RPG's, all that name-dropping, oh God the pandering is so intense, can't help but smile.

Yeah, this. Would of been a bit more excited for a different setting... and a better combat system.

Who knows what they will do with it? Torment was also fantasy, but it was as far as you could get from GENERIC fantasy. Hopefully they'll do something interesting with this one as well.

If not, eh, worst case scenario is another nwn2, hopefully it'll be closer to Mask of the Betrayer than base game, which was badly paced (even if it had some fun with generic fantasy)
