I've got a PS3 Navigation controller hooked up to my PC, and it's brilliant. Having an analogue stick and a few buttons that can be held in one hand while the other operates the mouse should be a superb setup for lots of game, but sadly very few properly support 'gamepad' and 'mouse' at the same time.

So I'm starting the campaign now- developers, stop making your games switch between 'gamepad mode' and 'keyboard/mouse mode' and cancelling input from one whenever I use the other. Let me mix and match as I see fit, and get the best of both control methods.

And peripherals manufacturers, start making nunchucks with native PC support so I don't have to faff about with third party drivers. I'll buy one, I promise.

(Yes, I could use Joy2Key or something to map the nunchuck buttons to the keyboard and play in KB+M mode, but that negates the benefit of it being analogue).
I hate those things. I'd rather be using 2 mice.
..joy
id rather stick with a xbox controller thanks
*&!^% No. I remember the Wii, and it made playing Twilight Princess an irritating experience. Normally, I am not a conservative grognard...but when it comes to game controls, I expect them to have the originality and stability of a rock.

exactly i dont want to fucking fight with the controls
motions controls are a fucking gimmicks
whats wrong with a controller ? i know what to expect and almost all games support them

they work
why try to reinvent the fucking wheel ?
What's wrong with keyboard+mouse?

have fun playing action games beat em ups and racing games with that ;p
I'm just talking about the nunchuck, not motion controls. Basically half a gamepad, so you can use a mouse with the other hand, and you get an analogue stick instead of WASD, allowing for more accurate movement.

I do just that without hassle.

And OP they are a thing, example as the Razer Hydra comes to my mind, I'm sure there are others.
The problem is support. Not many games support the bloody things. :|

Ditto. Well, not racinggames since I don't play those at all. But other than that I find keyboard and mouse the be the perfect set up. And not some fancy "gamer" keyboard and mouse with lights, dozens of extra buttons and weird shape, just some run of the mill stuff. It works fine for me, and I don't feel bad if I spill a drink on it or something else prematurely ends their life.

Yep standard M+KB here, able to play and adapt to any game (strain injury aside). The only, and exclusively this specific genre, that I can't play with M+KB is 1 on 1 fighting games, but even with a joystick I'm absolute shite on those anyway. :p
Awhile back I bought a T-Flight HOTAS X. I later realized that my accuracy in FreeSpace 2 was suffering, as was my piloting ability. Now all it does is collecting dust...

That said, there is a gaming device that I am particularly fond of: The MERC Stealth keyboard. It is basically a regular keyboard, that happens to have a dedicated gaming section integrated into the left end of the device. Ignore the extra software that comes with it, that stuff just isn't reliable.

When it comes to gamepads, ignore HORI. Their analog sticks have a tendency to start ghosting. So far, I have found that the Xbox One gamepad made by Microsoft to be good. Only downside is that some games and emulators won't properly recognize the shoulder triggers. :(

Indeed. I'd really love to be able to find a nice "gameboard" mini-keyboard for my setup. The Logitech G13 seems to be the only choice out there; alas it too only comes with a right-handed variant. Some enterprising lefty users have been able to actually saw off the thumbstick and transplant it to the left side of the device, but I've neither the time nor the expertise to resort to such hackery.

I've seen such products on Amazon but I've no idea as to their quality.
