Tokyo_Bunny_8990: Kratos IS a family man. His whole revenge rampage is based on the fact that Aries tricked him into brutally murdering his wife and daughter to become the ultimate weapon of destruction and one of the most heartbreaking moments in the series is when Kratos has to push his own daughter away to continue his quest for revenge. I dont think the narrative of finally making a family and having a son is a "wrong" direction for him but the combat system with the camera is an issue.
In God of War 2, Kratos has the opportunity to go back in time. Does he go back to before he murdered his family to stop it from happening? No, he goes back to kill his father. He had the chance to fix the biggest mistake he ever made, and instead decides to use his one chance to murder someone else in his family. His whole revenge arc could have been stopped in GOW 2, but instead he chose to press it forward into GOW 3 and beyond.

Keep in mind it's often different people working on these games from one title to the next.
My understanding is that David Jafee stopped working on GOW after 2 and is not happy with what was done with the character.

Kratos going back in time to fix his greatest mistake (killing his family) would open a huge an of worms since if he succeeded in undoing it, what would happen to present Kratos now that past Kratos is not driven by revenge? Greek mythology also frequently has characters with tragic flaws which cause them to make decisions against their best interest because it is their flaw.

You can also argue that Kratos was still tied to Zeus by "fate" and while Kratos was technically "free from fate" after killing the fates, he was still destined to kill Zeus which he does accomplish so how free was Kratos really from fate? God of War is Greek tragedy so family is a very important aspect to Kratos. I do think the OG God of War series is alot deeper than critics credit it and the "God of War is deep and mature now" is just BS by forgetful journalists.

This also only points out that Kratos is either an idiot or too consumed by revenge to truly know what he wants/what would be best for him which fits his character.

Yeah, Jaffe was only involved in 1 and 2 and was critical of Kratos' development, especially in the new GoW games with Kratos being "too soft." I know people dont like his comments but as the original creator, I think he makes a good point. Kratos is violence incarnate driven by revenge to the point of self-destruction which is why he is so tragic. New God of War is the way he is because Barlog had a son and wanted to be more fatherly and while that story is interesting, the protagonist didnt have to be Kratos. Kratos' drive for revenge destroying Greece and eventually resulting in the people no longer believing in the gods which caused their death (and hence why the Greek myths ended)

My issue with his comments though is that he did basically leave the God of War story unfinished (it needed 3 to tell the end of the Greek pantheon) and unfortunately, Jaffe's original vision was already lost by his lack of involvement in 3 with a different story and ending by Stig and the spinoffs having more involvement by Barlog. The Kratos of now is unfortunately quite different from the one he envisioned but his vision of Kratos arguably never even really existed.

Nunya_009: Oh right! I had completely forgotten the fact that DMC1-4 require a controller to play on PC. Them getting knm support feels like a pipedream though, with how old they are.

Definitely wish for the Shadow of Colossus remastered to be ported in future. Would love to play it.
That's hardly a fact since I did S-rank every single level on every difficulty and did everything there was to do in DMC3SE pc version on kb-only back in ~2007. I'm yet to play the HD trilogy pc re-release, but unless they botched something up badly controls-wise or my hands became geriatric in the meantime, I don't think it would be a much different outcome.
Full KB/M support with mouselook (where applicable) and everything would be awesome though, capcom was just lazy with pc controlls is all.
the canary? ==> gog. com/en/game/horizon_zero_dawn_complete_edition
if they pull it from here, (gone everywhere else as separate purchase) it then becomes schrodinger's cat. 50/50 that there is a chance the "remastered" version is coming (and others too?) to gog -- or, or, don't get too excited fella, they just pull it because...

so no, not "exciting" new news, i still "STAND BY ME", and my thread. no more (new/aaa) sony titles via gog. the psn "curse" is active. the end.

all those fools (aka wishful thinkers) who even now, "pray" for "new" games to still release via gog, and even list titles they would love to see... existing on steam or "fantasy" not yet on pc at all... swallow. I SAID SWALLOW MF!!

have a nice and productive day, y'hear?

Just buy these games on their PS5 if it bothers you so much. If they need steam to be played, they might as well not exist on PC.
I will just get me the, for me (in the US it is somewhat OK) overpriced PS5 Pro, in order to play those missing games using a BD. Technically this game version with this console is fine, the issue is just the system price... sadly.

There is still the good thing that i can now retire my old PS5 which worked hard for 4 years and this way it will be a good backup for a lot of years to come. I love backups, this is basically the second name of "IT".

I already got me a 4TB expansions SSD with a heatsink. Actually the cheapest 4 TB drive i ever got and not sure this drive is cheaper anywhere in the world, it was a lucky deal: Only 253 CHF (268 EUR, 293 USD) https://www.pcworld.com/article/1658193/kingston-fury-renegade-nvme-ssd-review.html

On my old PS5 the drive is a Firecuda 530 4TB which was 327 CHF, more than a year ago; still a OK price nowadays and 1 year ago it was actually a "super deal". Drives are actually pretty fair priced at my location, while many other stuff is simply a "rip off". Many people may use a high priced 990 Pro (however, 2 years ago this drive was twice the current price) but the difference in game performance is close to zero, not noticeable i feel, yet good for "bragging". However, the PS5 is making good use of SSDs, so a really slow SSD will surely become noticed, even inside the PCIE 4.0 range.

The PS5 Pro, on the other hand, will surely be the most expensive deal worldwide for me but at least a drive is included for those 900 CHF. I did not care the "PS5 stand", i may probably get it if i got way to much coins left. A clearly overpriced robbery product.

Anyway, i guess there will be more Sony games at some point on GoG: Surely, Sony is currently not acting friendly with the new "direction"; but nothing may last forever.

Besides: The 990 Pro will need a instant firmware update, even today... else i would consider it "busted". Not very convenient... but indeed i use one of them on my PC and firmware is updated of course. The controller is running pretty hot, not the best deal for a PS5, it is even 10° higher inside my PC vs. any other drive (including a T700 drive), dunno why (most likely the controller contact of the tape is not proper because the chip is VERY flat, more flat than the NAND, not a ideal design)... but so far my 990 Pro is alive.

i am glad those SSD prices are finally coming down even more, because for years it was way to high. High Capacity Enterprise HDDs on the other hand are still with prices comparable to a gold nugget.
