And it's not because it was rejected for being too 'niche' :D

The dev posts his thoughts on why they didn't even consider GoG. It's interesting to see the thought process behind some of it. That said I don't agree with some of it but at least it's there.
These guys really change their mind constantly.

On 18th of January they were prepared to look in to drm-free: https://www.gog.com/forum/general/games_that_are_unofficially_confirmed_for_release_in_the_future_part_2/post2603

Coming from the forums you linked on 19th of January they are again pro drm. Not worth having them here with that attitude.

Indeed, though they have a mixed history with piracy, and thus their attitudes towards DRM:

What is the BscotchID and why it needs a server? I thought the game was singleplayer only?

Basically they locked achievements and some game items behind their own online activation drm: https://id.bscotch.net/about.html

So basically they locked content behind drm. Uh. Do you people really want to give these guys money? I honestly don't care about the whole drm debate but this is clearly a drm measure enforced by the devs, there is no reason to lock that content behind a server.... I mean, they're paying to host achievements and some content? Really?

"Steam's DRM serves as a way for us to verify that players actually own the game before we let them use our costly BscotchID services. GOG has nothing like that, meaning we'd have to find a new way to verify game ownership.

But yeah, we totally get it. It can be annoying to have to run your games through Steam, and you may dislike their near-monopoly on the market. But the fact is that Steam is fair and useful to players (their DRM also serves to prevent cheating and hacking in multiplayer games), and without it we would absolutely not be able to be successful in the PC market."

That sums all about this dev's point of view.

EDIT: Okay, devs already realize this. "We know that Crashlands is going to be pirated like crazy, and we know we can't stop it."

I could still pirate the majority of the game if I wanted to, as (just for research purposes) I just checked a popular pirate site and found multiple versions of the game available with plenty of seeds. Of course I won't because that just adds fuel to the DRM fire.

The BscotchID allows you to sync your Android and PC game progress.

If the game exists on Android, it's probably not worth playing on PC anyway.
Aren't these guys the ones who were assholes on youtube when someone asked about a DRM free version?

No thanks.
Looks pretty damn awful anyways, so no loss.

Eh, makes sense but buying the game twice for that?

Sarcasm?

Yeah, you usually get the same thing, just for about 5 - 10 times the price on PC.

Mobile Ports are rarely worth it to begin with...

Nope, not in the least. When a game was designed for a 5 inch touchscreen, playing it on a 24 inch monitor with a mouse is rarely an enjoyable experience. Plus, as Habanerose said, you'll usually also pay a lot more for the PC port for no good reason whatsoever. And generally, it sucks.
