Blade Runner is ready to be tested in the last build of ScummVM.
Beta testers are needed and welcome.

Official news: https://www.scummvm.org/news/20190616/

Our ScummVM team is looking for Blade Runners who will help find, chase, and retire bugs which escaped from the off-world data colonies. These bugs are not dangerous and they won't stop you from discovering more secrets and choosing your fate. Your spinner, gun, ESPER machine and Voight - Kampff machine will be at your disposal.

We are announcing that Blade Runner is ready for testing. The following languages are supported - English (both CD and DVD releases), German, Italian, French, Spanish, and the unofficial Russian version by Fargus Multimedia.

Find your copy of Blade Runner, grab the latest daily build of ScummVM and copy the necessary files.

Now you can play the game with subtitles! Just download subtitles.mix and place it among the rest of the Blade Runner files. So far we have only English subtitles, however, if you want to help us transcribe other languages from audio, please contact peterkohaut & praetorian.

Note that when you add your game directory in ScummVM you'll be presented with two choices for the game. The first option is for the original game and will simply be named "Blade Runner"; we're mainly interested for your feedback for this version of the game, since it is considered feature complete. The other option is for importing the game with restored content and is named "Blade Runner with restored content"; this version is still work-in-progress and not yet complete. If you're testing this version please specify it explicitly in your feedback and bug reports.

If your version of the game is not supported, please create a feedback report with MD5 so that we can add support for it.
Please, vote Blade Runner in the community wishlist: https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/blade_runner
Oooh, that's cool! I still have the old CD version around here somewhere, but installation on a modern 64-bit OS is out of the question. Really glad that the SummVM people are bringing it back to life.
Now that is a game that needs a re-release. Nice to see it getting support.

Nuts. I just donated mine a few months back since I couldn't get it working

There was a patch that got it working perfectly on Windows 10 already. I know because it's always installed on my PC and I load it up here and there. ScummVM should make it easier for most though, so this is still cool news.

It should also be noted, as per the announcement, that with ScummVM, there is subtitles support and several bugs in the original game have been fixed. Also there is support for playing the game with restored cut content (currently not at 100% complete, but enough to give you a rough idea).

ScummVM is also multiplatform (with Nintendo Switch recently added in the list of supported platforms, too!).
Thanks Dr

It's unfortunately not perfect, We tried it and it sometimes breaks, requiring a weird work around .

definitely going to test this later
Yes!! Easily the best adventure game (or just game for that matter) I've ever played on atmosphere points alone.

NEVER going to happen. I know they somehow got the Star Trek stuff, but the Blade Runner license is crazy complicated. That's one reason a sequel took so long.

Thank you for bringing such great news! All my gamer's life I dreamed to play Blade Runner from my favorite Westwood Studios. Maybe I can even participate in beta test for SCUMMVM team, all I need is to find a spare copy ;))

Never say "never", if they managed to pull the rights through for a movie, maybe the others can do too for a PC game. GOG, NightDive Studios and some other cool persons can make miracles.

I will do this as well, should I find a copy for myself too.

I agree with you: let's stay optimistic, even though the game's source code went lost forever.

I'd say extremely unlikely but at this point never never. :P (imo a good time would have been before 2049 came out to help build extra hype for the movie.)

The movie rights and the game rights are two different issues.

DId SCummvm fix the timing problem that made the game unplayble on a modern computer?
Basically the game runs faster on a modern CPU, which creates problems since a lot of the game is realtime.. In one scene you have 60 seconds to do something or you are dead, period. On a modern computer, you have only about 30 seconds to do it,making it almost impossible to get past that point.

I think that there was a chance during the release of 2049 that the game might of been re-released in order to promote the film, similar to Disney putting the Star Wars games on GOG, but that time has come and past...
