kohlrak: I'd argue that you can't avoid politics, but i gotta worry about crossing the line and maybe loosing access to my games.

Still not sure i want to take that chance. But, threads disappeared. Can't really focus on politics if you don't have free speech (which i admit is no guarantee here). I left the egosoft (creators of the X series games) forums for the same reason (they selectively applied the rules to certain political ideologies, and when i pulled out quotes to prove this i got the "don't question the mods" policy), but i want to know for sure if what i heard is true, before i just willy nilly abandon gog like this.

I can attest to this.
I've been banned three times. Something that always seems to get ignored when I'm accused of sucking up to the Blues. :P
But I digress.

You can still even hang out in the forum and PM. You just can't post in the general forum.

If I were you, I'd forget about political discussions here, this community is definitely not suited for that, due to lack of sensible moderation, the personalities of many regular commenters and the horrible forum system.

Fairfox: as a game? leavin' teh rest aside? it sucks. its so banal an' gray. i read teh reviews, still bought it a while ago an' am naht impressed. it leaves me cold. it adds naaazin' to its genre. tahts teh worst thang; its not terri-bad or flail-worthy of any grate write-up, its just borin' an' substandard an' dull an' generic. mediocre forgettable-ness
From what I understand (again, I still haven't played the game):
* If you liked Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie and are looking for more of the same, then you will like Yooka-Laylee.
* If you want something that breaks new ground in its genre, then look elsewhere.

In particular, it is good to know what to expect from a game *before* you buy it. (It is also good if the game doesn't have any unexpected changes that could turn people off from the game, like sudden genre shifts (unless mentioned on the store page or trailer; Evoland 2 is the sort of game where this isn't a problem, for example) or insta-fail stealth sections (I believe even dedicated stealth games aren't like this except maybe on the harder difficulties; I read an FAQ for one such game in which such a feature is optional and only on the highers difficulties).)

Well, thanks for the heads up.

My overall point is that political discussions will happen, no matter how hard we try. There's no way to avoid the politics. Jon Tron learned that the hard way, not that it was more than a shot to his ego. But, it's important to remember. If you speak anywhere, it follows you. And if you make a game, your ideas and biases will likely come out, even if they aren't there (see the objectification discussions). My ultimate question is how to proceed knowing that the bias is there. So far, my answer is the same as an answer i had many, many years ago when i had a similar problem: when the general populace reacts to issues with apathy, join them, then when things blow up in their face for being apathetic, say "i told you so." sometimes people have to learn the hard way, even if the hard way is reaching to a point of no return. I'm OK with this, since i don't really expect support for my games from the GOG forums, anyway, so i don't really need to concern myself with how the politics here really evolve. If GOG's setup allows for a one-sided echo chamber (which is forming, but not completely there, yet), then when i suggest people to shop on gog, i'll add "but, remember to stay away from the forums. There be dragons."

kohlrak: But, hey, people complained about the last few threads being derailed, so what happened to this guy looking for friends? Can't we take this somewhere else and let it stand on it's own merit as a topic and let this guy just look for friends?
The avatar choosing by the user is very obviously political; in fact, it explicitly endorses a specific candidate. Can't get more political than that.

Edit: "fat" -> "fact". No, I am not talking about weight or obesity here.

Maybe, but if a thread about tommy is "derailed" because it talks about topics other than Tommy and free speech, then this topic is derailed for talking about anything other than being this guy's friend. Given that the OPs of the tommy posts in question went with the "derailing," it's safe to say, then, that if all standards are applied universally, this thread has been derailed, too.

Pathetic reveal time.

Apart from the B&B guests this forum is the only interaction I have with other human beings. XD

I actually have to do that today but it's rare. Usually I stay here and mind the inn while someone else goes out to restock.

I really don't mind. :D

Thought maybe you got a truck shipment or something.

XD I'm secluded but not that secluded. And we don't aren't that big. A truck shipment would be a tad overkill.

Well not the whole truck.

I know when I worked for supermarkets, many of them serviced ma and pas as well as convenience stores. One chain also delivered to the summer camps in the state.
