You make it sound optional.
Will the stuff still available on 'The Vault' work with NWN EE? By 'stuff' I mean the MODS, HAKs (like CEP 6.xx), models, portraits, etc., etc., that work well with the OC, as well as the two upgrades (HoU and SoU).
How about 'scripting'? Has anything with scripting changed?? Will the Aurora ToolSet (and MODs made with it) still work, or will everything I've made have to be re-worked?

Originally, I bought NWN (for around $30-40) and the two major additions (Hordes of the Underdark and Shadows of Underentide) that were around $20 each. I still have the original disks and the manuals that came with them.

What made NWN such a great game was the User contributions. What will still work, and what will have to be re-done?

Curious minds want to know (before spending another Twenty Bucks).

hummer010: It's a bit more than a name change though. Admittedly, with NWN, there are less improvements than Beamdog's previous EE releases. NWN already worked on Linux, and it already worked at higher resolutions.

Beamdog's EE games are definitely expensive for what you get, but you get more than most of the naysayers are willing to admit.

nightcraw1er.488: Perhaps, I know apparently there was a claim of beamdog on multicore machines using a lot of processing. Me, i don't have time for it, will always return to my old copy. Although wasn't as big a fan of NWN anyways, never got on with main character + pawn, or the long (might be 2 rather than 1) load times.

Still, I am going to stick with Beamdog being the modern day equivalents of the bloke who sold London Bridge.
That's fair.

For me, the EE versions have been great for two reasons:

1.) Native Linux support. Works better than GemRB, and less fiddly than WINE. While NWN does have a native Linux client, it can be a little challenging to use today because of some of the library versions. It can still work though.

2.) Interface. With the IE games, I had two options for the interface on my 13" 1080P laptop - a really, really tiny interface, or a reasonable sized, blurry, muddy interface. I didn't like either option. Again, with NWN, it was less of an issue because NWN already supported higher resolutions.

After those two items though, there are lots of little quality of life tweaks to the interface that made it really hard for me to go back to the original.

No idea about scripting, but "old" mods and saves should work along with the official content (e.g. HoU, SoU).

BeatriceElysia: They also didn't add NWN EE achievements to steam version, probably due to all mods you need to install.

Dark_Ansem: They are working on them, AFAIK.

However, I am in absolute dismay at the negative comments. The Diamond Edition has been on GOG for years. If someone wanted it so badly, perhaps that someone should have got it before, you know, a better performing remake came out?
so, let's talk about that.

what about the people who come after this starts selling?

removing choice is always the worst option.

sure. this game is "old" by today's standards, but new rpg players are made every day and they might want to go back and try some of the old classics. now they have to fork out for an ee [that isn't "the classic experience"] and have to pay TRIPLE the price of what the game was going for [precisely because it was an old classic.]

this isn't the right way to go about doing this.

that's fine, though. at some point, beamdog's reputation will [hopefully] tank and we'll get some better remaster overlords.

paladin181: Does this mean owners of the original are getting the EE? Or do I have to buy that. The language "replace" is why I am asking. Thanks.
avatar
hummer010: As I understand it, the "replace" is referring to the storefront, not your library. If you want the EE version, you'll have to buy it.
Too bad. I thought it would be free for those who has already bought the original Neverwinter Nights Diamond version on GOG.

Technically, the Diamond Edition is not being removed just bundeled up with the Enchanced one.
According to the openng post: "Neverwinter Night Diamond will be included in the Enchanced Edition as a bouns."

So by buying EE people will get both editions of NWN.

Thanks for the rapid reply and the links. Pretty much answers all my questions.

One more question: Does NWN EE install as a whole new game (in its own folder), or does it overwrite the original NWN DE install? The links don't address this question, but I'll assume it will install as a 'New' game/dolder, icon.
How will EE 'find' my old gamesaves/characters, or do I have to copy/paste this info into the new install?

True, but you don't have the choice to buy only one of them for a lower price anymore.

You're welcome. :)

Unfortunately, I can't answer the new question properly as I don't own the EE of NWN (I only have an old boxed version and the Diamond one on GOG).
I imagine it will go as you described with manual copying (Galaxy can import games, but I don't think that applies to just save files or other pieces of the game).
Any chance this will make it to GOG Connect? I'll eventually buy it here anyway (I'd prefer to have gotten it here initially) but i preordered it from beamdog and therefore have it there and on Steam already.

Leroux: True, but you don't have the choice to buy only one of them for a lower price anymore.
So the problem is the (likely) increased price, not the ability to have more options?
It's only a 20$ game, what is wrong with the price?
