tinyE: What book, LOTF?
avatar
Enebias: Yes.
NO, THERE WERE NOT! Trust me!

It is a group of student from an all boys private school. I know because when I read it, I was a student at an all boys private school! :P I remember sitting in English class looking around figuring out who would become what from the book.

I knew my ass would be dead and on a spike within ten minutes. :P

Oh, ok then, I trust you.
I read it at least 15 years ago, so my memory of it is definitely not good! :P

BlackMageJ: Making a Witcher adaptation without Ciri in it? What kind of company would be silly enough to do that?
In this case it would indeed be silly, but it all depends on the screenplay and what they're aiming at.

There's no Ciri (or much of the "usual cast") in Blood and Wine after all, unless you did not court Yennefer or Triss, in which case she drops by for a chat at the very end :P.

I read it 25 years ago. My memory is shit. but you don't forget stuff like that. :P
Well, my diminishing interest just got a little less. I suppose that makes me a racist because I want to see a somewhat accurate depiction of one of my favorite works of fiction.
First smooth face suave Cavil plays the socially awkward gruff and unpalatable warrior of Geralt, and now this.

WinterSnowfall: I for one am more looking forward to reading the novels,
You can read them now, Amazon has got them on kindle (physical too, I think ... I have just been reading the ebooks for convince) and they are good.

Very drastically diffrent from the games since Ciri is basically the entire plot of the entire series ... Like the entire god damned thing revolves around her & how her mixed Linage will make whoever she marries the king of the entire northern kingdoms.

Changing her race in the show isn't really a big deal for her character specifically, but in plot terms you would need to rewrite the entire cast of just about every major character to match whatever ethnicity they cast to play her or they will corrupt the the plot with incompetent inconsistencies.

... In scale of how bad it would be: imagine if HBO cast Donald Glover as John Snow & left everyone else as they are.

richlind33: Or Lord Of The Flies with girls. It's infantile.

tinyE: The reason that isn't going to work is in reality it would be boring as hell.

If a group of girls were stuck on a deserted island they would immediately come together, organize, allocate responsibilities, allocate jobs. In an hour they'd have a fully functioning, peaceful civilization.
Woah. WOAH. Uh, no. They would not.

I've, basically, been there and I can testify. The issue with humans is not really gendered.

Just because I haven't been in a room with a real live girl in over twenty years doesn't make me an imbecile on this issue!!!!

Wait...Actually....I guess it does. :D

Nonsense, women are much worse with intrigues, bullying, gossip etc. against each other, it's men who are capable of cooperation and looking beyond petty personal conflicts for the greater good.
Let's keep this on the topic of the Witcher netflix show aye?

As for the casting, Preacher did similar with Tulip and Ruth Nega did a great job, so i'm not writing anything off.
More annoying to me than having a non-white Ciri is the fact that people aren't putting [SPOILER] wraps on all the spoilers in the thread. ; )

But seriously, not having read the books this wouldn't bother me overmuch so long as the actress does the job well. What makes it even less bothersome is that my 'net connection blows goats so we don't use Netflix. haha

Carry on, then, though I would temper the grumbles a bit until there is an actual product to sample.
Another total BS from a crazy leftist crowd.

Don't watch this garbage. Go rather watch or rewatch Polish 2002 version.

* Mod note - Come on, don't throw around 'mentally ill' like it's an insult. You can express your view without being awful

But those characters were not the last heirs of a fallen kingdom, with established genealogy leading back to the arrival of humans in the northern lands & mixed with a branch of mystic Elven elder nobility that is all but extinct. All of which making her the hunted prize of kings, wizards, witches, warlords, spies, one specific witcher, and demigods from another plane of existence.

Who the hell wants to drive their ass all the way to the theater and pay $6 to see that!?
Ever seen the reality show SURVIVOR? they had a Men VS. Women competition at one point and the while the guys where making shelters and hunting food the women where sunbathing, forming clicks and bad mouthing each other.

This is why having an American production company adapt a foreign licence is a terrible idea. Most American adaptations are absolute shit. And most of them now are obsessed with identity politics.
