Short of actually launching some kind of formal legal action against the developer (or God forbid a hate-filled en masse online attack), I don't know how much good that will do. From what I've gathered, if the developer wanted to actually reach some kind of amicable or reasonable agreement that would allow development on the game to proceed, it would have happened by now.

No offense taken here, as a backer. I certainly don't think the developers would pay any attention to this forum, but I'm glad this thread was here to inform me, and others.

And yes, I really do want to hear the developer's side of the story before coming to any real judgement (let alone getting my torch and pitchfork). Trouble is, last I saw on the Steam thread, he was promising an official statement, "Soon" (tm). That isn't doing his public image any favors.

That's ridiculous and sad.

If these accusations are true, why does this guy ask people to "be very loud and demand" instead of taking legal action?

Anyway, if this is true I can't imagine a bigger childish douchebag than Scott.

I feel sorry for the people that backed it and hope they don't lose too much.Sooner or later this sort of system (paying upfront to back a game) will become a ''normal'' scam as it's only a matter of time.

It's the nature of the beast for Kickstarter (or IGG, Steam EA, GOG In-Dev, etc.) Every Kickstarter, no matter how certain, has its risks, as Double Fine has showed us. I was angry at first, but I've moved on. Nekro was the probably the most uncertain KS campaign I've backed anyway. I consider it a lesson learned.

I will say one thing, though. The developer had better have a damn good explanation for what's happened other than, "Whoops, you don't get your game! LOL That's Life!"

As mentioned in the OP, assuming everything is true, seems like he never saw any of the revenue generated by the game, and even had to cover part of the taxes from his own pockets, so he might not have the money required to hire a semi-decent lawyer, and may still hoping to resolve the situation without going to court (which would take both time and money).

And yeah, if it's true what he says, that Scott guy's a massive asshole and a dirty scam (afterall he charged people for the EA Release after already receiving money from KS to make they game).


That just underlines one of the possible scenerios as to why I stay the hell away from KS and Early-Access, it's like tossing money down a hole and hoping something good jumps back out, with no guarantee for it to happen. Makes me sad for the people who backed some of those KS and EA Failures.

I think I got my Steam key by trading for it, but I've held off from playing it whilst it's been in Early Access so as not to spoil my enjoyment of it.

Well that's sad, even thought the first gameplay videos weren't exactly the most exiting thing I even saw I still had high hopes for the game...

People have a right to know what the hell is going on with their money. Especially since darkForge games LLC was a 50/50 ownership split. If Klegran wanted to be the sole voice of authority, the split should have been a 51/49. Honest truth - I never saw ONE screenshot of this game LOL - despite the fact that it's been on that upcoming list for about a year + now - I lost track of time.

In all seriousness though, if you worked on something and were not earning income on your work, and then you also had to pay taxes and fees on the money you were not receiving, and on top of all that had to pay living expenses despite your working time being eaten up by something that was paying nothing... well, with what money would you prosecute? If drkSeed manages to drum up enough of an online furor he might be able to have a pro bono lawyer pick the case up or otherwise have an attorney give it a gander. Honestly at this stage suffering in silence is not noble, it just makes you invisible. If you are getting shut out of something the only recourse is to be so loud you cannot be silenced. Then, even if nothing else comes about, at least your side is heard and you are not made a patsy.

I get it, I really (sort of) do but this reads like "I'm losing so much money by not prosecuting this crime / bringing this civil issue to trial, that I can't afford to prosecute / bring to trial." Those fees and taxes aren't going to just go away no matter how tight he shuts his eyes.

In the very least, you'd THINK the State's Attorney / tax officials would be curious why someone is paying taxes and fees on money that isn't there and maybe they'd look into the issue on his behalf.

I guess I'm a bit sore because it reminds me a bit of someone I know. "I have SO much to do I can't do THING X that costs Y, so instead I'll waste MORE time doing THING A, that costs 2 times Y." LOL.
