Gaming immersion matters - be this GTA5 or DA. I will never go for the former, but I expect to have the latter.

Do you really think there is a "sole = proper" way to game? And that "best" way excludes anyone?

Why does the table wobble when it's legs are not uneven? It must entertain itself from the boredom of being a table. But I suspect your wheel wobbles from a lack of balance.

Yeah but being immersed in a character and being immersed in a character you created is different. If you created the character, the system should have had a sex choosing system in it. But why curtail others who want to make games with a character of the artist's design? They have the right to make whatever characters right?

And why think gender alone is the sole determinant of immersion? So if a game portrays a single homosexual individual as committing cruel acts, we and everyone in general are to take it that the game is saying all homosexual individuals are bad people?

What about the non gender features of a GTAV characters? Will a single guy relate very well to a character with kids and an unfaithful wife? May it have a chance that that character may resonate with a woman who can relate to it better than a female character who is a un-emotional psycho who lives alone? Why concentrate on one set of arbitrary traits as the determinants of gaming immersion when the goal is to make as many people immersed as possible?

Immersion first of all requires a certain measure of openness on the recipient's side. And IMO gender is only a minor "obstacle". I have no problem playing either male or female characters (in fact I will often choose the latter if possible), good or evil, loyal or backstabbing, lawful or "chaotic" (again, preferring the latter)...

There are a few immersion breakers for me, but they are entirely my concern and I would never demand developers change them to suit my needs. For instance I can't stand wanton cruelty against animals - so I'll never use the "silencer" in Postal 2. And I feel awkward romancing a male NPC, no matter if I play a male or female character. But I see those as "blockades" in my own mind, not as "exclusion".

If you have such a hard time getting immersed in games that's characters "aren't you", IMO the problem is with yourself. Do you have the same problem with other media too? Can't empathise with a character of a movie or book because they're very different from you? If yes, you should really work on yourself, because you are missing a lot. If no you should maybe try to find out why it works in some cases, but not in others.

Remember the developer of Depression Quest? And all the other women or gay developers trying to make games who get harassed, assaulted? Women and gay men who try to make games get targeted. Remember how a ton of people complained that Dragon Age Inquisition was 'pandering' to special interests by having diverse romances? Developers who try to make games that break the mold face backlash.

People are trying to make the games they want to see, and getting hatemail and flame wars because of that.

When every single game is the same story, it gets a little hard to get immersed in them. What's so wrong with having games that tell lots of different stories and do lots of different things?

Welcome to life. Any time you put your creativity out there, it faces scrutiny. If you want positive receptivity, you must make both what you want to see *and* others want to see. Otherwise you end up appealing to a niche market. This is assuming your basis was to appeal to anyone anyways, which is completely besides my point...
