Ixamyakxim: Do I need an account for this?

Not usually my genre, but for free I wouldn't mind dipping my toe in with one of the better ones out there.

Leroux: No, there's a simple download link, no registering required.
Awesome thanks very much for this! About 4 minutes away from finishing my download now - not exactly sure when I'll start it but excited to finally see what this is all about.

It's a short(ish) game right? Basically as much time as it takes to wander a home and check everything out? I only ask to get an idea of what kind of time it'll take - I'm thinking it's one I can "squeeze in" between other games.

If you're ever curious about game length, this the place to get your answers.

No kidding - I had no clue such a thing existed. Funny idea for a site, but I get it LOL.
Already have the game on Steam nice to have the drm-free version but I am probably not gonna play it again. If you are curious about the game this is the best way to grab it because it is not worth the 19.99 full price. It is one of those games that is very short but the shortness felt just long enough and any longer and the game would overstay its welcome. Once you play the game that is it and there is no replay value to it unless you are going for completion. If you have somehow managed to avoid the spoilers until now go in blind since knowing the ending ruins the experience. Not what the critics hyped it up to be but it is not the worst game in the world. Free is worth the price of admission here.

I looked at the site and the figures seem to be inflated to me. 46 hours for Lennus 2? (My endgame save is only into the 20's hour wise.) 89.5 hours for Wizardry 8? 2 hours for Super Mario Bros.? (The warpless speedrun takes less than a quarter that amount of time.) 34 hours (main story) for Final Fantasy 5? (I have done all sidequests and mastered all jobs in less than that amount of time.) 12 hours for Final Fantasy Legend? (That game was designed to be beatable in a single flight between the US and Japan, I believe.) 44 hours (main story only) for Morrowind? (That game is extremely short if you ignore all the sidequests.)

Also, searching for Ultima doesn't yield useful results.

It's probably average time. Not everybody goes as fast as you do (especially with that crazy Super Mario Bros. example you used).

It probably depends on the way you play games. My experience is the exact opposite than yours. I normally need much more time (33% - 50%) to complete a game than the average time on howlongtobeat.com.

I get the feeling dtgreene goes much faster since she's played all the games she's listed before. And because she noted a bunch of special scenarios (i.e. speedrunning and ignoring sidequests). Seems to be that she thinks the numbers are the fastest the games take to complete rather than the average time.

dtgreene:
For one, those are average figures from the data that users provided. The less users provided info on these games, the less reliable it is. Some of the games you picked only had 1-7 users provide their data; that's very low, and it's reflected in the color of the bars with the average time in it (red means less reliable).

Second, every user has its own speed and playstyle. The playstyle is reflected in the distinction between main story, main story + extras and completionist. There is no category for speedruns though, so you can't compare these averages to speedrun times. That being said, some people can take up to 3 times as long as the average player in every category, not necessarily because that's required, but because they just like to take their time.

Generally, this site is not about how much time is required for you to finish a game but about how much time other players spent with the game. You'll have to draw your own conclusions from that. If you notice that it always seems to take the average player twice as much time as you would need for your playthrough, you could adjust your expectations accordingly and half the time. It's not an accurate tool, just a point of reference.

"For people that need something about hope and love right now" is their statement for why they are giving the game, and I use the term loosely, for free.
Is this reference to SJWs having their jimmies rustled by fact Trump became the president? If so then that's a lousy reason for giving the game away for free.
As opposed to giving it out simply out of goodness of your heart.

I can never get behind companies like these knowing they probably support SJWs and they themselves are ones. The SJWs who will talk down about Call of Duty or other games by calling it "Dudebro" and similar.
The people I think of when I use the word SJW are ones who label everything sexist, demand special treatment because of gender, claim to love games and gaming but lie blatantly and so on.

So this game being free and me having missed it...is okay.

If you're interested in finding out about Gone Home and how it was reviewed go to this link and scroll down to "Gone Home":

Choke on Trump's dick and die, whiny incel MRA assbaby.
I just wanted to thank you for this post as I never would have known about this otherwise...but I think I came in partway through a discussion. I hate when that happens.

Not a supporter of Trump nor a MRA. So already you're assuming things. Im not surprised though...people like you do that alot. Label other people things they are not.

dtgreene: snip.
Like everyone already answered you, you are imposing special conditions, like speedrunning or comparing your own times as someone experienced with the game, on what is meant to be just an average length playthrough by, most likely, a first time player.

If you really find it all that inaccurate, by all means, add your own times to it. It's the only way to make it better.

And just one last thing

dtgreene: 12 hours for Final Fantasy Legend? (That game was designed to be beatable in a single flight between the US and Japan, I believe.)
That is how long it takes to fly between the US and Japan.
