Only problem with free games on itch is that you can't add them to your account, which means you have to save the whole game on a usb drive and you won't get any updates that come out after the sale.

Typically indie ones, but DRM-free. It's like any other store, there's plenty of good games and plenty of lousy ones as well. Less of a matter of what's "superior" and more what particular games you're looking for.
