I'm having trouble logging in, both with the stable and the development edition. I've pasted a log from the beta version here: http://pastebin.com/YD2uGspn
This is on a Windows 7 Professional, English system.

I suspect the downloader does something wrong with the password handling. My password is 22 characters long, all ASCII but has a few non numerical characters in it (yes, I use a password manager). When I temporarily changed it to a simpler 8 character password with only lowercase letters in it, the downloader could log in.

It is, by the way, also quite annoying that you can't close the downloader down when the login dialog is open. To get rid of it, I had to kill the process.

I just have to say that I love the downloader so much. It downloads games so fast it actually takes longer to move said game between folders once you have downloaded it. Good job GOG!

Because you set this to ON: https://secure.gog.com/en/account/beta
Therefore only Beta will work :)

Probably some kind of character in the password, do you have any special ones in it like "<>" ?
Also you can kill it, right click on the tray icon, and choose Exit.

1. Downloader version
3.0.52.0 (stable)

2. OS version
Windows 7 Professional

3. OS language
English

5. Downloader log contents if possible:
Dowload here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/33743246/logger.log (since it's such a wall of text and I don't quite know where the relevant part starts)

6. A detailed description of the problem.
I'm getting incredibly slow download speeds: ranging from 100B/s - 800B/s while my network activity widget shows dowload activity of about 200 KB/s.
This has led to the strange situation where I've been downloading "To the Moon" all day long, not even finishing the download and racking up an effective count of about 19 GB of data downloaded during the day. This is especially frustrating since I've got capped internet access and a 78,55 MB download has somehow succeded in using up the entire remains of my monthly usage cap and resulting in the purchase of additional data top up packages.

A solution would be much appreciated.
3.0.52.0 (stable), Vista x86 SP2

Please put in some feature or function so the downloader isn't merging one or more files while verifying another and downloading another file which results in major thrashing of the HD (most of the time it's the system-HD, too).
Let it do those task consecutively, for the sake of overall machine-performance and the lifetime of the HD.

updated manually to 3.0.52.....

Was in middle of downloading BG and the Maps that go with the game, so had two downloads queued up. Errors and crashes after the update knocked out both downloads. I was first able to get the maps back up downloading with a lot of clicking randomly to re-start the downloads, re-start the app, etc... For a while, even clicking the downloads from my games menu wouldn't bring them back, would instead just crash the program...

Well the maps finished downloading and the downloader crashes/freezes at the repair process. I got BG also up and running after the maps crashed and dissapeared again off the downloader without repairing.

win7 x64, all my system drivers up to date.

I'm probably just going to wait a while, do a fresh install, my internet is slow and bandwith restricted anyways so I wouldn't finish the downloads anytime soon, hopefully I can resume them at some point. But just wanted to let the devs know that there was a problem, also tried to submit this last night in the actuall bug submit and the submit wouldn't go through... had the log file attached and everything, but the page wouldn't let me submit, not sure if it was my slow internet or more problems. Overall I'm sure this will be sorted, I had no problems before this update

anyways, thanks

1. Downloader version (found under settings)
3.1.3.0 beta

2. OS version
Windows 7 enterprise Service pack 1

3. OS language
English

4. Browser kind and version (this is required only if you're having problems when adding
games to the queue from the website)
Firefox 15.0.1 - I cant add games with the 3.0.52.0 stable downloader at all, but with the 3.1.3 beta it works

5. Downloader log contents if possible:
Windows 7/Vista - C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\GOG.com
Windows XP - C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\GOG.com
n/a

6. A detailed description of the problem.
As also mentioned in posts by other people, my downloader downloads more megabite than it should (e.g., if the game has 100 mb, it doesn't stop at 100, but adds more). After a while, the downloader will either a) tell me there is a checksum error and contact gog support or b) reset to, say, 80 mb and continue downloading from there (and often go in a cycle where it overshoots, resets, overshoots again etc.) The download folder on my hard drive then contains several pieces of the game files that have not been merged into one exe file. I can only solve this issue by trying a download multiple times, or stop and restart one download many times. Eventually, the downloader gets it right, but it would be great if you can make it work right in the first place.

Many thanks for your effort!

Future releases of the Downloader won't include the merging process, so the download will speed up significantly.

An log file from the Downloader would help us greatly...

The log file isn't available in your case? These folders are normally hidden.

Ok, sent log file via email. Trying to download maps again on a better connection worked, no more crashes and it repaired properly.

p.s. how come the GOG download by default doesn't use the windows built in download directory, instead it defaults to Documents then a sub-folder., The sub-folder I can understand, but why not a sub-folder in downloads. just a suggestion, I know I can customize it myself, your probably going to tell me that again anyways, but that seems a more logical place for a downloader to save files... to the downloads folder.

p.s. if I change folder manually, and move the files to the new sub-folder I make in downloads, will the GOG downloader/update functions still work? if theres no problem with changing the default location after the fact I might do that later.

Anyways, better net connection seems to have sorted out some of the problems.

It's done that way because Windows XP doesn't have a default download folder.

You have to move the entire directory to which the files are downloaded (ex. the_witcher) for the Downloader to resume from a different location.
The Stable version will not work on my Daughter's Windows XP Service Pack 3 machine. It, however works great on my Windows 7 Ultimate machine. So, I saved the files for the 9 Free games plus a Gifted game, put them on a 4 G SD Card and installed all on the XP machine without any problem. They all work great on the XP machine.

Glad to see you got them working. As for the XP not running the downloader, it is possible that it is missing the .NET framework, though I can't recall if it requires 3.5 or 4.0
Try updating and see if it helps, or wait for Fallen_Zen to remind us what .NET version is required.

I can't log in no matter what I try.

When I start up the downloader, it asks me to log in. I input my email address and password, press the "Log Me In" button, and...nothing happens. So, I click the button again. Still nothing. I kill the program and try running it as Admin. No go. I check Windows Firewall, make sure that GOG Downloader is added and given permission, but still no go. I uninstall the program, re-download it, reinstall it, and try again. Same result. I log on to the GOG website, change my password to something simple (like "password"), and try again. Still no logging in going on. I am ready to start throwing heavy objects around my room in frustration, but I decide to post in the forums, instead. I am hoping for some good news.
