I appreciate the heads-up on this, but - as with others in the thread - I feel the options should default to as private as possible. Let people decide what they want to share with others. Don't decide for them.

To be fair, only the profile visibilty was set to public in my case. Everything else was friends only.

EDIT: i DO support that sentiment tho.

Dear GoG,

Talking about privacy: I've just had to complete a Google captcha to log in. I understand that you probably have some reasons to require a captcha but could you please implement it as a first-party solution so that customer privacy is not compromised?

Separately, the option for "your wishlist can be seen by" should be changed from "nobody" to "only me" so that it is consistent with the recent changes to the profile page (/account/settings/privacy).

I feel as though "activity" and "profile" should be separate items. I don't want others seeing my achievement timestamps or logged game play, but I'd like my profile overall public.

Thanks for tellling us in advance. Please also introduce a setting for the online status :-)

Mine was the same. Still, GOG shouldn't assume what you want to share with your friends, either. :)

toxicTom: 1) Defaults should all be set to max privacy. See EU privacy laws - could invite trouble otherwise.

2) "My activity" and "my online friends" should be split. It's fine if I decide to reveal my own stuff - it's not ok to reveal other people without asking them first.
These are pretty much the same defaults Steam uses... so if Steam can get away with it in the EU so can GOG. Actually I'm pretty sure Steam shows your friends accounts by default publicly also so GOG is actually better. They can probably get away with it because these are public accounts which you agree to when you create one.

Nice though, profiles will make a lot of things easier.

elcook: So there is a very cool and nice feature coming to GOG - we will be introducing user profiles very, very soon. But I won’t be revealing any details of the feature, as we want you guys to experience it first-hand rather than reading some PR bla-bla. Before it all goes live and will be available for you, we need to deal with all the formalities - launching profiles means adding new privacy settings on our end. We want to give you a heads-up, and that’s why today we’ve introduced the three new privacy settings on your GOG account, all connected to the profiles.

As with all privacy settings, you will find the three new options on your account, under „Orders & Settings” in the Privacy tab. These settings allow you to set visibility for your profile summary (including your recent activity and recently active friends), your games on the profile and your friends on the profile - you can set them to „everyone”, „friends only”, or „only me”. The default settings are - „everyone” for your profile, and „friends only” for both your games and your friends. If you want, you can change those settings already, before we launch with profiles, and of course you can change those settings anytime you want.

Hope you’ll enjoy this new feature when it comes to GOG, and expect an official announcement very soon!
What about the promised "Galaxy free installers chosen by default" option?

Oh, you crybabies. Everything that could be public I SET UP public. I see no reason in hiding things. It's not like block fuction doesn't work properly.
Gog badges next puhleaze! ;P

I can see plenty of better ways to spend developer time, but I guess many do want it. However, profile (which I guess will be some information about the user?) and activity (what exactly will that entail, anyway?) should be separate, can't have one setting to decide whether you basically have a profile or not (since if not visible, what's the point?) and at the same time whether your activity is equally public, AND also whether your friends' activity is treated the same way.
That last part is even more of an issue. I mean, isn't the news full of a case of what happens when people can grant permissions regarding their friends' information? So this friends' activity thing should be require a double opt-in, one to decide whether your activity can be shown on your friends' profiles and another to decide whether your friends' activity can be shown on yours. Only show if BOTH are true.

^^ And that too.

I agree with this as well. I do not want people knowing how many games I have here - far, FAR too many :p

bhrigu: Anyway, just one thing. Will it be possible to do so that we can choose which games from our collection to show in the profile, rather than the entire library?

muntdefems: Time to open a support ticket asking for the removal of Huniepop from your library, huh? xD
Not me. I take pride in my poor taste in gaming :P
