Cause there's no business like show-business!

Our DRM-Free approach to digital distribution has been the foundation of GOG.com since day one and we're convinced it is now firmly rooted in the gaming industry landscape. More and more users start to expect and demand the digital content they paid for to be free from any kind of restrictive mechanisms that limit access to their collections and get in the way of enjoyment. We think this is a good time to take the next step in our quest to make digital entertainment better for everyone. Today we set out to spread our DRM-Free ideas across the movie industry! That's right: GOG.com now offers DRM-Free movies.

Our goal is to offer you cinema classics as well as some all-time favorite TV series with no DRM whatsoever, for you to download and keep on your hard drive or stream online whenever you feel like it. We talked to most of the big players in the movie industry and we often got a similar answer: "We love your ideas, but … we do not want to be the first ones. We will gladly follow, but until somebody else does it first, we do not want to take the risk". DRM-Free distribution is not a concept their lawyers would accept without hesitation. We kind of felt that would be the case and that it's gonna take patience and time to do it, to do it, to do it right. That's quite a journey ahead of us, but every gamer knows very well that great adventures start with one small step. So why not start with something that feels very familiar? We offer you a number of gaming and internet culture documentaries - all of them DRM-Free, very reasonably priced, and presenting some fascinating insight into topics close to a gamer's heart. Now, what do we have in store for you?

- There's a whole new Movie Catalog for you to browse!
- All the movies we sell are priced at $5.99 (that's a launch promo price for a few of them), and we aim to have that as the main price point for most of our future releases
- Two of the movies - The Art of Playing and TPB AFK: The Pirate Bay Away From Keyboard are available for FREE, so that you can test our new movie distribution features
- Most of our movies are in Full HD 1080p quality, some in 720p. With those of you with limited bandwidth or download quota in mind, we also supply much lighter 576p versions.
- Apart from downloading your movies you have the option to watch them streaming online, right here on GOG.com
- GOG.com is famous for its bonus goodies - each movie will come with as many of them as we can muster
- You can expect subsequent movie releases each week

That's it. GOG.com Movies is a go, time to get some popcorn!
high rated
As weird as this may sound, I'm rather disappointed about this move. Would it be great to have a DRM-free movie service? Sure. But if CD Projekt wanted to go into movie distribution, they should have created a separate service for it.

GOG still has so many ways in which it still needs to improve and enhance their distribution of games. Bringing movies into the mix is just wasting valuable resources that would be better spent on improving its existing services.

Sabin_Stargem: First up: The reviews and movie done by the AVGN, as he probably wouldn't mind having extra revenue streams for his work. And bring his game, too.
Agree on the film but what's the point of the reviews? They are available online for everyone to see for free.

Just my two cents but:
- who goes to a game portal to buy movies? (well i guess steam will do the same...)
- i am not interested in indie movies... (bring me thor, startrek, lordoftherings, piratesofthecaribbean)
- i am only interested in bigger than 4GB/hour mkv, 1080p h264/5, 5.1-channel aac/ac3/dts/dts-hd/truehd
- i won't pay more than $4.99 per movie
- i am only interested in stuff after it's gotten a few years old
- if those i want are available i will buy hundreds of movies :-)
- couldn't care less for streaming in a browser... on a dedicated player app that may be different.

I love it. Thanks GOG ! I always wondered what would it be to have a company that sells DRM-Free movies "like GOG does for video games" and there you are. Fantastic. Keep'em coming! :)

bernstein82: 5, 5.1-channel ac3/dts/dts-hd/truehd
Classic movies are in mono. Remastered soundtracks are evil ;)

Indie Game: The Movie is already available there. Don't know about any others.
Nice to see some growth on GOG and i would love to see Avatar : The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra on GOG.
So basically we will see a ton of indie movies here since all cinema movies are drm protected and the gog's price point for movies from my viewpoint is too high. I pay 3.90€ for a movie in the cinema so no way im going to pay 5.99$. Otherweise a nice move and next ebooks please.

while you're at it:

offer audiobooks (fantasy/scifi) without drm for about <=$15

then i can finally quit audible & it's ugly drm.
I tried one time to buy season of one of the show in digital from amazon and I couldn't cause I am from wrong country. So I hope that GOG will expand this department so I will be able to buy it. Today's selection a bit... indie. But. It is the first step and I want it to be not the last. Thank you for small glimmer of hope
I think it's a brilliant idea ! I've been waitnig for years for Steam to do it, you did it first ! Congrats !!
That being said, let's be honest, if there's only indie movies, and indie documentaries, I won't spend 5€ on that. That's the price I pay for a theater bluckbuster (It'd be like paying 50$ for an indie game when I can have an AAA far superior for the same price).

So I hope you'll get some good movies there soon.

Exoanthrope: Oh my GOG, Bronies...

Elmofongo: Its funny since I watched the documentary on Netflix (Out of curiosity as to how this show got so popular) but I find it interesting they never mention thing like this in the fandom:

(Note that I understand not all Bronies are like this, but you guys gotta moderate the extreme parts of your fandom)
Well, that was enlightening.
Thanks for 2 free movies. Although, i have to say that even after they were added to my library, it is still possible to add them to the cart and proceed to checkout (ui doesn't mention that i already own them).
how about offering1080p drm free tv-series?
- house of cards
- game of thrones
- dexter
- stargate
- ...

To support the Nerd and GOG, for one.

Two: I would prefer to download movies to my computer and to watch them directly, as Youtube/Blip/ect tend to give me trouble. This also creates the foundation where DRM-free applies to not just our games, but also movies. That is personally important to me.
