Painted_Doll: How many games will we lost if all Interplay titles wanish from the Gog catalog ?
Here is the full list of 40 game products with Interplay as the Developer or Publisher:
https://www.gog.com/games?devpub=interplay&sort=title&page=1 Some of the products contain multiple games so the individual game count would be slightly higher from that, however some of the games are no longer owned by Interplay such as the Fallout games, so the count would be slightly lower. 40 is a ballpark however.
While it is quite highly likely that the titles would be removed from GOG, Steam and other stores temporarily during the transfer of ownership to new parties, it is also quite likely that many of the games would return back to GOG under new ownership presuming the new owners either already have a relationship with GOG (such as THQ Nordic), or to which GOG would be able to successfully negotiate to bring them back here with new owners by using previous sales data and customer demand in negotiations.
At least I think that's a reasonable scenario, and I use the transfer of Fallout from Interplay to Bethesda as a case in point. Prior to that there were no Bethesda owned games on GOG.com if I recall correctly, but after the IP had time to transfer hands Bethesda and GOG must have been in communication in short order to work towards the eventual partnership to bring some nice surprises here from the Bethesda catalogue including the return of the previous 3 Fallout titles.
There's no guarantee of course either way, but given the choice between presuming the games will never come back without any proof of that, or the games will come back without any proof of that either, the latter seems more hopeful and promising to consider for me at least, and the entire conversation topic is extremely speculative to begin with so there's no reason to assume any doomsday scenarios IMHO.
