Press release (via Neogaf):
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 7, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Leading video game software developer, publisher, and licensor, Interplay Entertainment Corp., today announced a process to sell its library of video game assets and intellectual property. The expected sale represents some 70 titles and dozens of characters.

"Interplay has entertained millions of players with its well-recognized games, including Earthworm Jim, Freespace, Giants, Kingpin, Messiah, MDK, Run Like Hell, Sacrifice, Battlechess, Clayfighter, Dark Alliance, and Descent. As game creators, we are proud of the entertainment these properties have provided over the years. With the proliferation of mobile, augmented reality, virtual reality and other new forms of consumption, we believe that consumers are ready to experience and interact with Interplay's characters, stories and game play in ways never possible before. We look forward to seeing how this unique portfolio of interactive entertainment icons will evolve for the worldwide audience," states Eric Caen, President of Interplay.

For more information about Interplay's sale of intellectual property, please contact Joe Morgan at Wedbush Securities (joe.morgan@wedbush.com), who has been engaged by the company to assist in this process.
I guess that explains Interplay's frequent 90% discounts here. That potentially means that every single Interplay game here is in probable danger of being removed.

Let's see whether the Descent creators will try to buy Interplay's share of the series.
GOG (or CDProjekt) should acquire Interplay from the Caens, but I imagine that's never happening. At least they have the chance to grab some of the IPs.
Oo this means more games like the gearbox Duke?
Somebody phone up Nordic and suggest them to buy the IPs. Probably gog should make another goodbye sale fast.

I assume this means the guys from Parallax will get Descent back? Maybe?

Only if they decide to shell out for it.

I was sort of hoping this was good news for Descent. Apparently not.

It can be good news for Descent if the Revival Productions guys get their hands on Interplay's partial ownership of the series.

For the rest of the games (including Freespace), it might be a smooth transition (like in Nordic's purchase of Desperados and Silver) or it might lead to an abrupt removal (Bethesda/Fallout and Gearbox/Duke Nukem).

why ?
cd projekt isnt made from money
the witcher 3 made around 100 million and they are using that to keep the company running and bankrol cyberpunk 2077

buying up IP's willynilly even if they are "cheap" wil just stretch a company thin
and companies stretched thin usually collapse
Does this mean we can finally buy Sacrifice?
