It's really amazing how silly names can people sometimes come up with for movies, books and games. I think it's especially hilarious with many "tough action hero" type characters. You know John Matrix, Logan Blade, that type of thing. One of my all time favourites has to be Cypher Rage from After Earth. Recently I learned that J.K. Rowling wrote an entire series of crime novels with a detective named Cormoran Strike. I nearly fell over laughing at the book store when I read that at the back of the cover. And now I found a new contender- Ichabod Drift, a space smuggler from a novel by Mike Brooks. It reall amazes me that someone writes a movie or a novel that's supposed to be taken seriously and gives the protagonist a name like that. I mean, at least Commando was supposed to be just as stupid as it's hero's name, but Cormoran Strike? Cypher Rage? I can't be the only one who finds it hilarious, right?

And they know it.
I call it the Crystar/Moltar syndrome.

Twin brothers.

Guess which one turned out to be the bad guy?

Don't forget "Age 12"

And yes, Cypher Raige is hilarious. M. Night Shyamalan is really good giving ridiculous names (Story, Narfs anyone?).

Anything containing punctuation (more a fantasy or sci fi one) or that you can't figure out how to pronounce.

Don't get me wrong, a ' in a name can be fine done right (ie. with some actual logic and consistency as to what it means in a name) but most books were I've seen it done it's maybe one character in the entire world and everyone else has a more normal name.

Similarly any book where one character is called something ridiculous and bizarre and everyone else has normal names.
"Hey George, I want you to meet Jer'tan the Destroyer"

I can't think of any proper examples off the top of my head though...
It's stupid, but in a good way: I love the english names of Asterix Characters.
Among the
Gauls: Unhygienix the fishmonger, Valueaddedtax the druid and Cacofonix the bard
Romans: Fishfingus the legionary and Squareonthehypothenus the architect
Normans: Nescaf and Epitaf
Harry Potter and every single character named in those books that I've ever heard.

I love a name-pronunciation guide in my books if the names are of questionable annunciation.
Frodo... Samwise, Merry, Pippin... And all last names in The lord of the Rings...

That's interesting -- back when I used to read Asterix, the druid used to be called Getafix.

EDIT: Also, to add to your list, Egyptian: Ptenisnet

That character from The Hunger Games, Katmess or Katnip or whatever her name is.

Oh no he is. Valueaddedtax is another druid, from Asterix and the Goths if I remember correctly. He invented a potion that makes the drinker impervious to pain.
I have come across a weird English dub of Asterix and the Big Fight though, in which Getafix is instead called Vitamix.
kylo ren
chancellor snoke
count dooku

neither of these 3 names actually inspire fear and dread

more like snickering
