Hickory: Classic does not mean 'as they were before', not by any definition of the word. You are confusing 'classic' with 'classical'. They have entirely different meanings. Classic means timeless (judged over time) or typical of its kind.
From GOG's staff announcement, this is what they called classic and is what they promised.
1. We clearly noticed - yes, we did - that many of you prefer the old installers (let’s call them “classic”) and prefer to manage their growing libraries manually. Therefore, once we roll out “new” installers with the option to install GOG Galaxy, we will add a separate download of the “classic” ones. Going forward we will offer the option to download “classic” installers whenever a game is offered via a “new” installer.
I don't know of any more recent clarification about it.

Should GOG offer an installer without absolutely any trace of Galaxy?
I'd like but I never expected it based on their communications.
Here you go people, I can prove how wrong OP is and you can see for yourselves how often GOG is falsely blamed so many times.

Video Link Showing BG2EE Classic Installer: https://youtu.be/PgWqyhqFmRU

The Installation is done on a clean Wine prefix with the latest classic installer of the game (freshly downloaded), with the internet disconnected just to be 100% sure.

I just did download a new version of BG2-EE-Clasical using and install it so see what wold happen.
For me it did work flawlessly and I can not see any kind of Galaxy-infection on my computer.
So I cold not recreate the error described by the OP. (hmm what is OP short for ? Ganni1987 thx for your answor)

I did the download using the GOG downloader (see https://www.gog.com/downloader )

The files I got was
setup_baldurs_gate_ii_-_enhanced_edition_2.3.67.3_(a)_(10672).exe
setup_baldurs_gate_ii_-_enhanced_edition_2.3.67.3_(a)_(10672)-1.bin

So using the GOG downloader seems to be a useful way to get the "Clean" classic installers without Galaxy.

/regards.

edit
note the GOG downloader is GOG old download tool and is way older than Galaxy. And GOG it is not making any "comersial" for it any more.

edit Forgot to mention OS used. I did the install on windows 7.

Yes they should

And as I said, they are being mis-represented as 'classic'. They are not timeless nor have they been around long enough to be even considered 'classic'. If you have a black car for sale you don't advertise it as a red car, unless it's a Ford.

Should GOG offer an installer without absolutely any trace of Galaxy?
Absolutely they should. I use Galaxy myself on my other machine, but on this machine I want no trace of it, yet I get Galaxy libraries in virtually all recent games.

I assume that the OP had Galaxy once installed on his system, perhaps a long time ago and that there are still remnants in the registry of his OS which triggered the galaxy related routines in the installer. It would not be the first time that somebody has problems installing a game after Galaxy is no longer on their system.

After a cleanup of the systems registry the installation should run fine.

Which nevertheless is concerning, is the circumstance that when you uninstall Galaxy (as long as uninstalling does not mean delete the folder manually) still remnants of it can interfere with the installation using an installer which is called "classic".

Thanks for the heads up, I just fired up the GOG downloader for Strife and it saved the classic installer. In fact, it was the only windows option under "more-gog downloader links" to show up.
I like how the blue responses are along the lines of "Galaxy was just trying to do something automatically". Unless someone is installing a game through Galaxy it shouldn't be doing anything. The fact that it will try to react, whether it's on or off, while unpacking a GOG installer is the real bug.

It wasn't Galaxy doing anything, it was the game checking if Galaxy was installed to register itself in it if that was the case.

UnrealQuakie: I was gonna say the same thing about that but kept shut on it lol.

Exactly Gersen, it was a "classic" installer doing something Galaxy related which made the installation fail.

No it wasn't. Based on what the OP actually stated it seems he or she was actually using the Galaxy installer not the classic installer due to a glitch on the website or a glitch due to whatever browser scripts the OP is running. The site must have been displaying the wrong info for whatever reason.

Why are we still arguing over this? Mystery was already solved by the looks of it, only thing left to answer is why it happened...
avatar
PetrusOctavianus: I just double checked, and it seems there are indeed two different installers, but to get the true classic installer (whih is 0.1 GB smaller) you have to click on More and then choose Classic Installers, despite the main download page clearly saying, in large friendly letters CLASSIC GAME INSTALLERS.
That's rather sneaky...
This would clearly indicate some form of a website glitch because the true classic installers are ONLY found under the MORE button when a Galaxy installer is added... they don't display classic installers by default unless no Galaxy installer has been added or unless a script is used (like the one adaliabooks offers on here).

This massive hyperbole around anything Galaxy related is getting real old around here...

Yes, GOG should really fix the situation so the problem goes away.
