Rise from the ashes of a dying world

Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem, an open-world ARPG where you will be able to shapeshift into highly customizable forms, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Humanity appears to be at the twilight of its reign over this world. You, on the other hand, are growing in power, exhibiting a (un)natural proficiency in wielding magic. For that you will be feared, persecuted, hunted. But your formidable talents will help you survive long enough to come across an enigmatic sect of Templars who wish to recruit you. Soon your path will become clearer, but your trials and tribulations are going to grow harder still.

WOLCEN Studio turned to early access so that they can gather precious feedback on their ambitious project and sustain its independent development. Thanks to CRYENGINE's power, the game's visuals already look captivating, as do the spectacular spell combos that will be at the core of Wolcen's gameplay. The developers admit that a lot of the intended content, including the Apocalyptic Forms, is still absent from the game but, similar to the protagonist, it is constantly growing and morphing into an impressive beast.

Expose the horrifying truth behind mankind's gradual extinction in the epic tale of Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem, DRM-free on GOG.com.

JudasIscariot: Welllll....there is The Witcher...

Niggles: I was thinking along the lines of a viking inspired game -- party based - zero female charachters.
Might be a bit late, anyway, I think you are thinking of Kyn

ambient_orange: ... Seems the game will be fully released maybe two years later..

huan: From what I played, this looks like reasonable estimate - one or two years. At least while the devs continue to dodge this question (btw question for some blue - why does the In-dev FAQ thread have Ashes of singulairy in it's url??).

Right now the world itself looks very good, maybe even better than Grim dawn. Minimap is pretty minimal, just large patches of green, only roads are visible. Some skills are implemented and visually appealing but completely unbalanced (no surprise here). First quest can be obtained, but as far as I can tell not completed. There is one interesting bounty dungeon. But the reward for clearing level is - ability to descend to next harder level. Maybe some skill book random drop. Equipment drops exists, but the stats are pretty unimpressive, you can lightning everything to oblivion even while naked (ok I lie, umbra missile is better, but I'm not sure how to verb that!).

By the way it's not classless. There are stat points and skillpoints gained per character level. If you put everything into power and manaregen, I can imagine you will have hard time to play as warrior, even if you level up the warrior skills to max. Of course equipment you can wear depends on stats, I wouldn't count on playing plate mail clad sorcerer either.

There is a good game in there, but it will take some time for it to materialize.

ambient_orange: I dunno why gog would be interested in putting this unfinished game here. I mean devs have money from kickstarter and they can always put game here when they finish it.. :\

huan: Money independence is always a good thing to have. With alternative source of income they may for example be able to implement some of the stretch goals that didn't get funded on KS. And with 50% in-dev discount, I'm happy to support.them, it looks like they know what they are doing. I avoid kickstarter, too much uncertainty. On the other hand I trust GOG to do their job when selecting in-dev projects. To invert your question - why would you want to prevent me from supporting them?

I would happily support an option to better separate in-dev games from the main store for people who don't want to deal with them. Here is the corresponding wishlist item. From the number of votes, it looks like most people here don't mind seeing in-dev games here (there may be more representative wish, I didn't search too hard).
You can support the game all you want but if we see same game in shop for months we never appreceate fully when it gets released.. sort of like worn shoes...
Also a lot of "alpha" beta etc.. games sit in steam and they sure have average "pre-release" reviews that shouldnt be the case.
