Riding the intergalactic highway.

Master of Orion: Collector's Edition, the glorious return of the legendary 4X strategy, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. Owners of any of the previous installments get a permanent 5% discount.

Most strategy-inclined kids have at some point in their lives dreamt of becoming the true Master of Orion. To conquer a whole galaxy through sly negotiations, intense technological research, or even all-out war. Now the dream is coming back to life, as you will once again ride your customizable ship(s) and throw yourself at a vast network of almost 100 solar systems, populated by the alien races that franchise veterans fell in love with.

Developers NGD Studios have already enlisted a star-studded cast of acclaimed voice-actors to breathe life into these characters and make interactions as fun as the addictive gameplay that players have come to expect from a true Master of Orion successor. Currently, the game includes six out of the ten alien races and several features (like certain victory conditions) will remain unavailable, as the developers aim to keep polishing the game with the help of their community.

Engage in interstellar warfare and limitless exploration in the vivid new Master of Orion: Collector's Edition, DRM-free on GOG.com. This edition includes the three vintage Master of Orion games and eventually it will also feature a wonderful Digital Art Book, the game's orchestral soundtrack, an additional race, and more. Those who already own any of the original Master of Orion games on GOG.com, get a permanent 5% discount.

Note: This game is currently in development. See the FAQ to learn more about games in development, and check out the forums to find more information and to stay in touch with the community.

kilobug: But I would like some official confirmation by either GOG team or the game developer/publisher that if we buy the game in early access now, we'll get the Linux version on GOG when it's released (phase 2 or 3). $50 is not a small amount of money, so I would like to be sure before spending them.
Dude, please don't buy the games before the Linux version is ready! Do you seriously think that publishers continue making Linux ports if Linux users buy the Windows versions?
So far, I'm liking it more than MoO2, less than MoO1. But then again, I auto-resolved combats in MoO2 because the AI was crap and not a challenge. Don't know how I feel about research in the new one yet, seems you can research everything instead of things randomly showing up. But, I'm glad they spent so much time on the personality of the different empires. That was sorely lacking in MoO2.

popperik: Does the North Korean block depend on the South Korean rating? Will the arrival of the rating in the South unblock the game in the North, too?
Maybe gog wants to discourage South Koreans from crossing the DMZ in order to get MoO in North Korea.

As we can infer from this picture, the only person who probably has a computer is Kim Jong Un himself

My guess is they don't want to leave him out. :)

Maxvorstadt: Ah, nice satellite photo. I like how the lights form the shape of Japan.
I think you confuse the islands of the Sea of Japan with Japan itself, from which you can only see the nothern part of Shikoku in the lower right corner of the screenshot ;)

Well, Japan consists of the islands of Japan.

Maxvorstadt: I`m wondering, that it even gets released in North Korea. Media always say that North Korea is some kind of stone age communism, where the people are so poor, that they can`t even buy the most simple technologies. So how can such a country be a market for a game which needs some advanced computer technology?
I`m astonished like hell.
Apparently they have a coddled class of elite state-backed SIGINT types; I vaguely remember reportage to that effect when Sony got hacked and North Korea was reckoned to be responsible. I've no idea whether they're allowed decadent Western games for their computers, though.

Ehm, yes?! But Japan is not on the posted screenshot.
I read lots of comments and watched letsplays and you cant control the space battles. THIS IS A DISASTER and no way i can buy this in current stage. Controlling the battles is the biggest reason I am (still) playing MOO 1.

IAmSinistar: The future is vapourware - we've been promised it forever, but it never gets here. :)
And yet, the future is not what it used to be.
:)
I'd like the $9.99 non-collector's edition please.

They say that tactical battles are not yet implemented in multiplayer mode, but they should be in single-player mode, and will be in multiplayer mode before the final release. Isn't that the case ?

Well, I'm fine with a clear, firm promise of a Linux version within a reasonable timing. I might change if one day a publisher promises a Linux version but doesn't deliver it, but so far I've not been beaten that way, so I'll continue trusting promises (but promises, not vague "we might").

I wonder if it cost her $49.99. Did it come with extra pieces?

There have been games that still lack the promised Linux version and there are games which lack their Linux versions on GOG. And you are going to pay 50€ for it.

I hope you understand that giving publishers money for a Windows version means not giving them money for the Linux version. If the Linux users buy the game before the Linux version gets released they will (euphemistically put) think twice if they want to port another game.
It is a really really bad idea to buy the game now (and I'd go as far as to say that it can be considered egoistic because you are not contributing to the Linux market whilst getting a benefit from other people waiting to pay the Linux teams - as you said "[you] are fine with it" ).
