Riding the intergalactic highway.

Master of Orion: Collector's Edition, the glorious return of the legendary 4X strategy, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. Owners of any of the previous installments get a permanent 5% discount.

Most strategy-inclined kids have at some point in their lives dreamt of becoming the true Master of Orion. To conquer a whole galaxy through sly negotiations, intense technological research, or even all-out war. Now the dream is coming back to life, as you will once again ride your customizable ship(s) and throw yourself at a vast network of almost 100 solar systems, populated by the alien races that franchise veterans fell in love with.

Developers NGD Studios have already enlisted a star-studded cast of acclaimed voice-actors to breathe life into these characters and make interactions as fun as the addictive gameplay that players have come to expect from a true Master of Orion successor. Currently, the game includes six out of the ten alien races and several features (like certain victory conditions) will remain unavailable, as the developers aim to keep polishing the game with the help of their community.

Engage in interstellar warfare and limitless exploration in the vivid new Master of Orion: Collector's Edition, DRM-free on GOG.com. This edition includes the three vintage Master of Orion games and eventually it will also feature a wonderful Digital Art Book, the game's orchestral soundtrack, an additional race, and more. Those who already own any of the original Master of Orion games on GOG.com, get a permanent 5% discount.

Note: This game is currently in development. See the FAQ to learn more about games in development, and check out the forums to find more information and to stay in touch with the community.

svmariscal: Now I am no expert in xenobiology or anything, but shouldn't the mrrshan lady have eight boobies?
No, but the Psilon lady should. Boobies in excess of arms are optional, boobies corresponding to arms are mandatory.

high rated
Today, I bring you a Public Service Announcement!

In short, Master of Orion is blocked in North & South Korea right now — but this is completely, entirely temporary.

The game's rating in South Korea seems to have been delayed, but it is pending. Once the game gets an official age rating, it'll be unlocked for all of our Korean friends as well, and therefore worldwide.

On a personal note, apparently ratings are a thing for games in development as well. Who would've thunk.
I am very surprised , because it's using Unity 5 but it's superiorly optimized game . Even most optimized Unity game in my opinion .

LiquidOxygen80: Unfortunately, ya lost me at real-time combat. :(
Yup, can definitely see why this is a concern. Remember the number 1 complaint in M.A.X 2 when compared to M.A.X 1?

But what concerns me most is that this might be another case of taking a classic IP and changing the formula to appeal to the mainstream. I hope not but the possibility is very real. However, I'll hold off on the negativity until it gets released.

If my assumption is correct, no problem, but may I kindly ask the devs to rename the game to "Fisher Price: My First 4X Game" instead? It will be less misleading this way.

Weird, considering content may change.
It probably would've been better if you guys had waited instead of region blocking it though.

Just out of curiosity, are sales big in North Korea or do they all go to the beloved leader?

Since they have only about 1000 IP addresses, i.e. not many computers connected to the world wide web, all sales from an internet platform surely go to the glorious leader and his extended family or the military.
So a turn based game with real time combat? Total War in space? No that bad imho, i usually simply auto-battle anyway.
But on topic: MOO both had the great MOO2 and the terrible MOO3 - so I'm surely not throwing money at an unfinished game. It might become good, it might be crap. They'll have to show the finished product before I consider buying it.
This game will be probably still better than MOO3 (which is not really that hard), but since there is no turn-based tactical combat and I do not care about bizarre real-time hybrids, I am going to pass on this one.

So if you, like me, do not think that turn-based combat is a dead/niche genre, I recommend you to let the developers know and do not buy this game. Or buy it, but do not be surprised that turn-based games will die off completely one day, except for purely indie titles. Image if X-Com had real-time or hybrid system (X-Com: Apocalypse tried that and I consider it a fail). Or Heroes of Might and Magic, or Age of Wonders (which is just an alternative to Master of Magic anyway).

Please note that I am not forcing you to do anything, I am just pointing out, that I subjectively consider this game a betrayal of the original two games and I am pretty sure I am not completely alone on this one.
Hello, could someone confirm that there will be a Linux (and Mac) version, and that if we buy that now, we'll get it when it's available ?

I'm genuinely curious about this. Even if it's only a few games here and there to the few who would have access, GOG can sell games in North Korea?

Sounds logical : They are sold, and people play them, so for the law, there's no real difference between indev/earlyaccess/paidbeta and any other "finished" game. They are normal products.
Almost $60 for an incomplete game? Yeah, dream on. Finish your game first, then we'll talk.
My experience with Wargaming is a love/hate one. Ask any World of Tanks player why. So you will forgive my disbelief. And real time....just no...I'd rather play Sins of Solar Empire. Even worse...I'd rather play MOO3
