If I could fly / like the king of the sky.

Airships: Conquer the Skies, a strategy game where you design and build your own airworthy vessels out of thin pixels, is now available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, DRM-free on GOG.com, with a 15% discount.

Did you have your dreams of becoming a pilot or a mad inventor crashed under the weight of reality? It's payback time! Build any ship you can imagine pixel by pixel and launch a campaign to conquer the unsuspecting world! Then watch it crash and burn in excruciatingly realistic fashion and build another one. The side-slice view on your creations will let you monitor all their inner workings as well as your crew's movements, while you fly around or do battle against other elaborate machines. Although the game is still In Development, all the core building and combat mechanics are already in place. Until its release, however, developer David Stark plans to add an extended strategic conquest mode, as well as the option to build land-ships with wheels, and to face dragons or other airborne menaces.

Design, build, and carefully fine-tune your battle-ready creations in Airships: Conquer the Skies, DRM-free on GOG.com!
The 15% discount will last until January 4, 13:59 PM UTC.

Note: This game is currently in development. See the FAQ to learn more about games in development, and check out the forums to find more information and to stay in touch with the community.

Fairfox: No.
Which one or is it both?

Please be both.

Interesting Idea, but they're not airships.

Strategy games yeah, this no, it's finger painting level.
Pass then,.............NEXT!
Well.... I think I like this game.
But I'll wait until it's completed.
Good luck to the developer.
For once it looks like there is a proper strategy game behind the carnage, with finances and planning, and all you nabs can do is complain about the graphics. Who cares.

It looks like Windforge had a baby with one of those extra boring strategy games crossed with one of those extra low pixelcount indie games.

Which is not a good thing. Windforge was super janky and ultimately ended up soft dead, I'm not into the sort of games where you have to manage the parts most people cut from the wargames of yore, and the entire aesthetic of the game screams, HIRE AN ARTIST.

That last bit is probably the biggest issue with the game. Factorio isn't exactly a game of graphical beauty but it is several steps up from "flying squares of plywood".
I pretty much agree with everyone. Sounds good, looks not so good. Moreover, while I don't have a problem with games that use the so called "pixel art" and I like many games that have those aesthetics, I believe that on this particular occasion the graphics look bad.
Sometimes, when on GOG, it's hard to keep my wallet in my pocket. This ain't one of those times.

Right, Windforge! I knew there was already a similar game on GOG, but couldn't think of the title. According to more recent reviews, many of the game's problems have been fixed, so it might be worth a closer look. Certainly looks more refined than this, for whatever that's worth.
People, look at the price! I'm neither a fan of pixel art or in development games but the description and videos are interesting and the price is right for this kind of thing. I might get it next week after I've reloaded my card and seen a few reviews.
Hmmm Looks rather fun.

Windforge was my first thought too when I saw the screenshots. The more recent reviews are right, it is playable now. No game breaking bugs remain, but there is still some bad optimization - if you mine too many tiles, that map becomes very laggy. Which would be avoidable, except some of the temples self-destruct when you complete the objective and trigger the same effect. The story is still pretty bland though. If you like steampunk, it's probably worth at least single playthrough, but I would definitely wait for a discount.

Alfrodull: It seems that now the quasi-retro-pixel-fashion-shitty graphics is the universal excuse for releasing any kind of crap.
Honestly, looking at current graphic capabilities makes this game nothing more than a $1 app on your phone. I understand it's difficult and I wouldn't be able to do it, but I'm also not trying to make a living developing games. If I was, I would use current technology and not two or three decades old. I love the classics too, but making a game look like it's thirty years old doesn't make it a classic.

Edit - Yes, it looks like the exact idea as Windforge. At least Windforge has some detail to it. Either way, anything more than $5 for something like this is nothing more than a shameless cash-grab.

Shooting, boarding, ramming, design-it-yourself, and a strategic element? Clean up the graphics a bit and I'm there.
